Introduction to College Preparatory English is a 8-day enrichment class intended to benefit students registered in English 1 (not English 1 Accelerated) seeking to improve reading and writing skills in preparation for high school English. Under the direction of AMHS English Department Faculty, students receive daily close readings, reading quizzes, class discussions, group activities, and short-writing assignments emphasizing the literary elements and issues within the required Summer Reading novel. It is not necessary to read the book in advance of the class, as time for reading will also be integrated into the course itself. The Summer Program provides the necessary novel for all students enrolled in this class. Additionally, writing strategies such as short paragraph writing will be used to aid students with understanding the organization and development strategies useful for high school writing assignments.
