IMPORTANT ENRICHMENT CAMP INFORMATION

(PLEASE READ PRIOR TO REGISTRATION)

  • 4-DAY CAMP WEEK - Enrichment camps run 4 days per week, allowing families to enjoy a longer weekend for extra summer fun.  Some camps will run Monday through Thursday and others will run Tuesday through Friday.  See camp details below.
  • CANCELLATION POLICY - Camps will not be refunded once registration closes. Registration closes on the Monday the week before camp begins. Therefore, a family can receive a refund up to the Monday of the week before their Summer Program camp begins.
  • The cost of our Athletic Camp includes a Summer Program apparel item.

Musical Theatre (Rising 6-9 Grade)

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in Shrek Junior!, based on the Oscar-winning smash hit film and outrageous Broadway musical. Come work with AMHS Performing Arts faculty and perform in a Broadway-style musical in only two weeks of rehearsal. The fun begins Thursday, June 13th and ends with an hour-long performance on Friday, June 28th at 11:00 AM in the Kinkade Center for the Arts.

Want to know what it's like to be a cast member of the popular AMHS Sketch Comedy group, Pardon My French? Now is your chance to learn long and short form improvisation games and develop your own comedic sketches with our Director of Performing Arts and Pardon My French directorMr. Doug Santana. This gut-busting six day camp will end with a performance on the afternoon of Friday, June 21st in the Kinkade Center for the Arts.

Calling all future animators! Unleash your creativity and bring your imagination to life this summer. Learn the magic of movement, storytelling, and character design to craft your own digital mini movies using exciting animation techniques. From cut paper to digital drawing, explore different worlds, and share your unique vision! This class is aimed at beginning animators, no experience is necessary.

 

          Public Speaking (Rising 8-10 Grade)

According to most studies public speaking is the number one fear. Five time state champion Archbishop Mitty Speech and Debate team believes the way to overcome this fear is becoming more confident in your own voice. This two week camp led by Director Karen Cruz will explore all 17 unique and exhilarating competitive events that high school Speech and Debate has to offer. Students will walk away with a filmed elevator pitch that describes their favorite event and why. The improvement for each camper in just two weeks will be frighteningly impressive, so don't be too scared to sign up!

 

Social Media Marketing (Rising 8-9 Grade)

This two-week course for rising 8th and 9th grade students will focus on learning the foundations of marketing and digital media. Exploring various facets of marketing, students will gain new insight on consumer behavior, media literacy, rebranding, among other subtopics. Featuring guest speakers with backgrounds in marketing, journalism, and public health, students will draw connections between content and application in various careers. 
 

Literature

Sports Literature (Rising 6-8 Grade)

This two-week course for middle school students will focus on reading and listening to stories, podcasts, poetry, and informational texts all related to sports. All reading and activities will take place during class time. They will read the nonfiction graphic novel Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang, and discuss various ideas that come up in the book, including teamwork, overcoming adversity, facing fears, and following dreams. Students will practice the skills of reading comprehension and supporting opinions in a compelling manner through close reading and writing activities. At the end of the course, students will work with groups to create and play a new sport!

Are you a middle schooler with an eye for design? Want to sharpen your photography skills? Or improve your writing? Tap into your creative side with this two week yearbook course that will introduce students to layout design, photography skills, and a focus on creative, non-fiction wiritng. Students will also get the opportunity to learn interviewing skills, tag-team photo coverage and brainstorm various angles on writing a story. At the end of this course, students will have learned how to make a yearbook and take home a "weekbook" to commemorate their time at camp.

Summer presents an opportunity to reinforce concepts and solidify math competency in preparation for future higher-level math classes. In our Pre-Algebra Skills experience, fundamental algebraic math skills (fractions, decimals and ordering numbers) are reinforced and strengthened using application problems which help students to visualize mathematics in the world around them. By the end of two weeks, students should be more confident and proficient with deconstructing and organizing solutions to solve problems.

 

S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics)

Eureka! You discovered a hands-on science lab experience where AMHS Science faculty will teach students how to design scientific experiments using high school level technology.  Students will make use of PASCO sensors linked to an iPad via Sparkvue app to gather data.  Students will additionally develop practical lab skills like measuring, solution preparation, and solution pipetting. Using these new found laboratory skills and understanding for PASCO sensor use, students will design an experiment of their choice.


Robotics (Rising 6th-9th Grade)

In this enrichment camp, students participate in hands-on learning about robotic design, mechanics, control, and programming from our AMHS Robotics faculty and staff.  Fun and challenge are part of this camp experience as student teams work together and learn the fundamentals of robot design and engineering.

 

CAD and 3D Printing (Rising 6th-9th Grade)

In this enrichment camp, students will learn how to use industry leading 3D modeling programs to design digital creations of their imaginations, and then use 3D printing technology to make those designs a reality. Students' will put their creativity and learned design and manufacturing skills to the test in engineering competitions and team activities.
