He or she can enroll in the "Activities" page on myMitty to get an election packet and all the details about running for office. Just make sure that your student attends the MANDATORY meeting at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 23rd, in room 501. CRS RicebowlSchool Spirit

This week, Catholic Relief Services invites us to reflect upon the Catholic social teaching theme of the "Sacredness and Dignity of the Human Person" through its work in El Salvador. In this principle, we remember that Jesus spent years working as a carpenter. Work is important to help people live good lives, so people must be paid a fair wage to provide for themselves and their families. To learn more about Catholic social teaching and how CRS Rice Bowl is helping families in El Salvador, please visit crsricebowl.org. Also this week, consider joining your classmates in fasting from bottled water and donating the amount you might have spent in your religion class!

Counseling

SENIORS
As you hear back from colleges, please update your Naviance account and let your recommenders know the
good news.

For California State Universities (CSUs), please make sure to check your specific application portal account for any important to-do items (i.e. missing documentation, housing application, additional testing, etc.). Your counselor does not have access to these accounts, so you would need to notify your counselor if a college is missing information or documents.

FAQ: COURSE PLACEMENTS (GRADES 9-11th)
As we wrap up course placements for 2017-2018 schedules, please review the following FAQs:

• What if I want to drop an AP/Honors course? Parents must email the student's counselor to approve the schedule change.

• I don't see the two science/math classes that I requested on my schedule? "Doubling up" is only possible if the student's schedule allows it. After we finalize placements at the end of the semester, students will be placed in their additional classes, if space is available in the classes. If a student's schedule has many single-section courses (Speech & Debate, choir, electives, etc.), doubling up will be more difficult.

• I didn't meet the required grade for the first semester, but I'm meeting the requirement this semester. Can I change my placement? All placements are based on the prerequisites for both semesters. If you improve this semester, please wait until after finals (when grades are issued) before you contact the Department Chair. In addition, if you do not meet the grade requirement second semester, your placement will be adjusted accordingly.

• I ranked my electives but I'm worried that I may not get my first choice. Your counselor will review your schedule to ensure that you are in the appropriate classes for graduation and college requirements. Given that many elective courses are offered as single-sections, there will be departments where you will not have your top choice. We will do our best to work with your schedule, but we cannot customize a schedule for every student.

• I'm confused why my counselor is contacting my parents about my schedule. Counselors will be contacting every student and his/her parents if we are concerned that the schedule is overloaded. The priority is a balanced schedule, not the amount of AP/Honors courses. Counselors will review the HW minutes chart, provide recommendations, and help the student manage their schedule.

Athletics Report

Post Winter Season Wrap Up
It has been a successful season for our winter sports, which - to date - have wrapped up their playing time with two WCAL titles, two CCS titles, one NorCal title, and a potential state championship still on the horizon.

Women's Soccer Gives Strong Performance in CCS Finals
Our women's soccer team rose to the very highest level of competition, winning a WCAL championship in February, before reaching the CCS Open Division Finals, where they lost a close game to Mountain View, 3-1. The team was led by several impressive seniors, including Monica Hrncir and Amaya Zabalza, who signed letters of intent to play collegiately at California State University, Monterey Bay and University of California, Santa Barbara, respectively. Congratulations to the team on a great season!

Men's Basketball Finishes Strong Season in NorCal Playoffs
The men's basketball team demonstrated the value of resilience, winning 9 out of their 10 final games to reach the NorCal Open Division Semifinals. The Monarchs entered the CCS playoffs as the No. 3 team but rallied to beat higher seeded Bellarmine and brought home the CCS championship. The team advanced to the NorCal playoffs and pushed through the quarter finals, ultimately falling to Sheldon in the semifinals. Congratulations on a great season!

Women's Basketball Wins First NorCal Open Division Championship
Congratulations to our women's basketball team for taking home the program's first NorCal Open Division championship. This marks the program's 12th NorCal title. The Monarchs beat Cardinal Newman 78-54, adding yet another achievement to a season where they'd already racked up both WCAL and CCS championships. Senior Madeline Holland led the way with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore Haley Jones was impressive with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists and senior Daniella Guglielmo was terrific from the outside, hitting four of seven 3-pointers and 14 points. The points kept rolling in with junior Nicole Blakes notching 10 points and 5 rebounds while junior Karisma Ortiz had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. The win was truly a team effort with 22 of the final 34 field goals coming in as assisted baskets.
School Spirit

"To watch Archbishop Mitty's girls team is like witnessing a basketball orchestra," wrote Darren Sabedra, a sports reporter and editor for The San Jose Mercury News. Read more about the championship game here.

The team will now play Clovis West, the Southern California champion, for the state championship title at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25th, at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. The Monarchs are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps. Equally impressive, all four of the team's seniors signed national letters of intent to play basketball at NCAA Division I schools and will be attending Saint Mary's College of California (Holland); the University of California, Irvine (Garza and Guglielmo); and San Jose State University (Hill) in the fall. Congratulations Monarchs on an extremely successful season. Good luck in the final game!

Men's Volleyball Team Takes Home Victory Against Valley Christian
The men's volleyball team started off strong by winning their first two games of the season. Last week, the Monarchs won their game against Valley Christian with a 3-0 victory. The team turned out straight sets of 25-21, 25-17, 25-13 for the win. Junior Derek Jones had 13 kills, while senior Luke Byrnes had 8 kills and 1 dig. Junior Nick Alftin added 7 kills. Previously, the team beat St. Ignatius, 3-1. This weekend, the men's volleyball team completed in the Charger Classic, defeating Willow Glen, Sobrato, and Los Gatos. Congratulations on a strong start to the season.
