Peter and the Starcatcher Closes This Weekend!School Spirit

Tickets on sale for the final four performances!
Our first production of the year, Peter and the Starcatcher, upends the century old story of how a miserable orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan. Featuring 23 actors portraying 100 unforgettable characters, Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and imagination to bring the story of pirates, jungle tyrants, and unlikely heroes to life. Only four more performances are left for October 13th-15th. Tickets can be purchased online for $14 for adults and $10 for students. Get your tickets today!

PSAT/Activities Day: Wednesday, October 19th

On Tuesday, September 6th, you should have received an email from the school that summarizes the following information:
On the near horizon is October 19th, set aside as PSAT/Activities Day. On this day, regular class sessions are suspended for the day and the four class divisions undertake the following:

All freshmen come to school and then travel by AMHS-provided bus to do service at local agencies (on campus by 7:50 a.m; back to campus and excused for the day at 1:00 p.m).
All sophomores take the PSAT exam on campus (on campus by 8:45 a.m; test concludes and excused for the day by 12:30 p.m.).
All juniors take the PSAT exam on campus (on campus by 8:45 a.m.; test concludes and excused for the day by 12:30 p.m.).
Seniors are encouraged to visit local colleges and universities.

During the week of September 7th, an email was sent to each AMHS family with more details regarding the events of October 19th.

Please note the following:
• Attendance is required of every freshman, sophomore, and junior. Roll will be taken, as on any regular class day.
• You do not need to register your student to take the PSAT exam; the school has already done that for every sophomore and junior.
• The cafeteria will not be open for food service on this day.

Sophomore/Junior/Senior Evening College Faire
During the evening of October 19th, the Counseling Department will host a College Faire. College representatives from across the United States will be present in the Fien Gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to answer any questions about their colleges or universities. AMHS students, and their parents, are invited to attend.

NCAA Informational Session
The Counseling Department, in conjunction with the Athletics Department, will host a NCAA Informational Night on October 19th, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. The event is open to all families of student-athletes who want to play a sport in college. It will include an overview of NCAA eligibility requirements and the recruitment process. A panel of coaches and current student-athletes will be available to field questions. This session will be offered in the Aymar Events Center.

First Quarter Ends October 21st

Parents are reminded that the first quarter will end on October 21st. Please be sure to check your student's progress using OnCampus. Student grades will be updated every month on the 1st and 15th. You can check student progress using OnCampus. To access our online grade reporting system, go to Quck Links and select OnCampus. If you have concerns about your student's performance in a class or his or her overall performance, please contact the student's teacher or counselor to work with the student to create an improvement plan. If you have any trouble accessing OnCampus or creating your account, please contact our IT Director, Mr. Eric Anderson at eanderson@mitty.com.

Spirit Week Activities Begin

This week marks the beginning of our annual Spirit Week celebration. Students signed up to participate in class Spirit Week teams last week. Each class theme will be revealed during divisional meetings on Thursday. More information will come as Spirit Week gets closer, so
advise your students to get ready for crazy outfits, exciting games, and a heavy dose of intense school spirit!

Counseling

SENIORS
There will be eight workshops available for seniors to receive help with their California State University applications. The dates are: October 21st from11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
October 21st from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
October 27th from 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
October 31st from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
October 31st from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
November 1st from 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
November 17th from 2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
November 28th from 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Please register here (one workshop, per student). If you are unable to attend a workshop, please schedule an appointment with your counselor after you complete your application. Do not submit your application without a counselor's review.

The early deadline for recommendation forms has passed. The final deadline to turn in recommendation forms is November 10th. In order for your counselor to sign off on the forms, the following items must be completed:

• Resume
• Counselor questionnaire
• Teacher questionnaire(s)
• Parent brag sheet (through parent's Naviance account)
• FERPA in the Common Application. (We completed this process in your religion classes.)
• Student initials & signatures
• Parent initials & signatures

JUNIORS
Counselors will present in religion classes on October 13th and 14th to review the following:
• PSAT & test prep
• Testing calendar
• Developing a college list
You are strongly encouraged to attend the College Faire/NCAA Night on Wednesday, October 19th. Individual appointments with your counselor will begin October 17th. If you would like to meet your counselor before October 17th, please contact him or her directly

SOPHOMORES
Counselors began scheduling meetings with sophomores on Wednesday, October 5th. For sophomores who missed the classroom presentation in religion, please complete the following in Naviance in the "About Me" tab:

FRESHMEN
Freshmen who were absent during the counselor sessions in religion classes can get their Naviance logins from their counselor. Once you activate your Naviance account, please complete the following in the "About Me" tab:

Students Take Home Awards at First Congressional
Debate Tournament

Congratulations to the Speech and Debate team, which had several students win awards last week at the first CFL Congressional Debate tournament of the season. Sophomores Roxsana Gorgolewski and Sanika Mauskar placed third in their house. Junior Rahul Ramakrishnan placed third in the senate. Sophomore Eshan Gupta placed second in his house, and senior Akaash Tawade placed second in the senate. A special congratulations to Junior Mukil Pari for being awarded the best presiding officer.

Athletics Report

Men's Water Polo Secures Victory Against Saint Ignatius
On Wednesday, the Monarchs secured a big win defeating Saint Ignatius 17-12 in San Francisco. Defensively, the team was led by junior Nirav Pakala and senior Ewan McGarvey with outstanding performances by senior goalies Jaxon Verbeck and Alejandro Veroulis. Offensively, team captain senior Conor MacLean showed strong leadership, rallying the Monarchs after the team was down 3-0 early in the match. Senior Dylan Luu sealed the win with key goals down the stretch. The team looks to build on this win and qualify for the CCS.

Cross Country Team Performs in First WCAL Meet
Congratulations to the varsity men's and women's cross country teams for impressive performances in their first WCAL Meet last week. On Wednesday, the women's team competed in their first WCAL race of the season at Baylands Park, a flat 3.1 mile course with mounds at the halfway point. In the varsity division, the seven runners completed an exciting race against tough competition. Senior Abby Mangilog led the team to a second place win by placing fourth in her race. Sophomore Dimitra Constantin and Senior Sarah Abbott finished the last girls race of the day in eighth and ninth place. The varsity team will continue competing this weekend at the Clovis Invitational.

The varsity men's cross country team demonstrated great resolve, finishing fifth place at the meet. Senior Eric Coyle got out in front of the pack strategically and fought determinedly, finishing third with a personal record time of 16:25 on the 5K course. Junior Samuel Leather followed with an energetic rhythm close behind, finishing in seventh place with a PR of 16:52, while junior Jim Falcone pressed steadily and reliably forward throughout the race to finish in 15th place with a PR of 17:04. Individual course records for this race were some of the fastest in the school's history. Coyle currently holds the fastest time in school history on this course.

Consecutive Wins for Women's Golf Team

The varsity women's golf team secured two consecutive wins last week. The team defeated Sacred Heart Cathedral on Thursday 231-243. This win followed a victory against Presentation on Tuesday, 230-240. Senior Clare Brady gave continuously strong performances, earning medalist honors in both matches.

Adult Spirituality Series: Catholic Social Teaching -
Vision and Action

Have you ever wanted to know where the Church's teaching on social concerns comes from? Come trace Catholicism's best kept secrets from scripture to modern social justice concerns. Along the way, we will interweave Archbishop Mitty's own mission statement and philosophy, and how that is translated into action on campus in our programs and culture. Mrs. Megan Walker, AMHS religious studies teacher, will be our guest lecturer. The evening will begin with drinks and light hor d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. RSVP here.

Alumni Weekend 2016
All Alumni Picnic - October 22ndSchool Spirit

Alumni and their families are invited to attend an alumni picnic and football game at noon on October 22nd at the Bill Barone Baseball Field. Bring the whole family to enjoy BBQ (from Sam's BBQ) and activities for everyone. Head over to Fr. Jack Russi Field at 1:00 p.m. to watch the Monarchs take on the Padres (ticket to the game is included in picnic registration). Tickets are $15 for adults. NCAA Signing Days at AMHS

Archbishop Mitty High School hosts three NCAA Signing Days on campus each year. Information about these events was mailed home to senior parents in September. Please take time to review the letter as well as the AMHS NCAA Signing Day website for information about which seniors qualify to participate in these signing events. Questions regarding NCAA Signing Days at AMHS should be directed to Mr. Josh Walker, Director of Athletics. The deadline to register for the November 9th NCAA Signing Day is Wednesday, November 2nd.
