This past spring, student-athletes brought home individual WCAL championships in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the 110-meter high hurdles, and the 300-meter hurdles. The women’s 4x100 meter relay team also took home the WCAL and CCS championships. Congratulations, Monarchs!
Coach Gaspar Torregroza ’82 has been a vital member of the AMHS athletic community for decades. He has spent 32 years coaching football at various levels in addition to 27 years coaching in the track and field program. For the past three years, he has been the head coach of the men’s track and field team. During his years as a coach at AMHS, he has helped athletes on the track and field team train for 18 league and six CCS titles.
Coach Vaca ’12, a USATF Level 1 coach, joined AMHS as the head coach of the women’s track and field team in 2016. In his first season as a coach, the team brought home three WCAL and two CCS titles. While in high school, he won a number of WCAL and CCS individual championships. He later joined the track team at the University of California, Irvine. In college, he was named a two two-time NCAA Academic All-American, a two-time NCAA West Regional Qualifier, and an All-Big West Scholar-Athlete in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
