Despite a delayed and shortened season due to the pandemic, the Monarchs had strong showings in their three official races. Sophomore Alexandra Zanon placed 2nd in the last WCAL meet of this season and the men’s team placed 2nd overall. There were no WCAL or CCS championships this year, but last season, the women’s cross country team advanced to the CCS Championships, where Zanon qualified to compete at the CIF State Championship. That same year, the men’s team won third place in the WCAL, breaking a 21-year-old school record for the course and advancing to the CCS Championships. The program offers varsity, junior varsity, sophomore, and freshman teams.
Coach Grubb offers the team 28 years of experience as a competitive distance runner, including four years of cross country and track & field at Westmont College. He has been coaching high school runners for 11 years, nine of which have been at Archbishop Mitty High School. He is also an avid half-marathon and marathon runner.
