Speech and Debate

The Archbishop Mitty High School Speech and Debate team (MSD) brings together students from all departments and backgrounds at Mitty. Students prepare during classes and after school practices for local, regional, and national competitions in 17 events. The events range from competitive acting, original persuasive writing, spontaneous thinking, and argumentative debate. A full list and explanation of all events can be found on our team website.

In this activity, students not only compete for the opportunity to hold a trophy, but more importantly, learn life lessons about leadership, teamwork, time management, persistence, humility, and confidence. These life lessons are even more rewarding than trophies because they shine brighter and last longer.

Anyone interested in joining the Speech and Debate team is encouraged to audition for a spot. To audition for the team, you must first submit a short recorded audition video answering the prompt “what do you love most in the world and why?”.  More information about the submission process will be provided here on April 1st.
