Honor Societies

ABOUT HONOR SOCIETIES

AMHS is affiliated with two honor societies: the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation. The school pays the annual membership dues for students and provides stoles and cords at graduation for those who meet the qualifications to graduate with these honors.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF)

The California Scholarship Federation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among middle and high school students in California. There are approximately 1500 chapters in middle school and high schools throughout the state.

Eligible students become members by submitting applications based on their semester grades. Membership is for one semester, and membership drives are held each semester within established periods dictated by the State bylaws. For more information, please visit the California Scholarship Federation website.

Membership
Membership begins with the first semester of sophomore year and continues each semester thereafter. At the start of each semester, an informational email with the application attached is sent to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Graduation Recognition for Seniors
To be eligible to wear a gold CSF stole at graduation, students must maintain CSF membership from the beginning of sophomore year through the fall semester of senior year.

Eligibility is confirmed once first semester senior grades are recorded. Gold stoles, diploma seals, and CSF pins are distributed prior to finals in May.

National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society is a nationally recognized organization that celebrates academic achievement while fostering scholarship, service, leadership, and character. For more information, visit the NHS website.

Membership
NHS membership is based on the Semester Total GPA. Membership begins with the first semester junior grades. A 4.00 Total GPA is required for three consecutive semesters (1st and 2nd semester junior year and 1st semester senior year) to wear the NHS cord at graduation. At the beginning of each semester, an informational email is sent to all juniors and seniors.

Eligible members will receive an email invitation from the NHS Adviser/Coordinator with information on how to create an account on the NHS website and the verification process.

Graduation Recognition for Seniors
To be eligible to wear a gold NHS cord at graduation, students must maintain a semester total GPA of 4.0 or higher for three consecutive semesters (1st and 2nd semester junior year and 1st semester senior year).

Eligibility is confirmed once first semester senior grades are recorded. Gold cords are distributed prior to finals in May.
