Advanced Science Research

The Advanced Science Research program offers rising Mitty freshmen the unique opportunity to learn how to develop and conduct independent real-world scientific research. This enrichment camp is distinctive in that it offers students practical laboratory experience from AMHS Science staff to support their future pursuit of professional-level research required for SYNOPSYS and COSMOS programs. In addition to receiving guidance from the mentor in the summer, ASR students receive support on campus with the conceptual framework underlying their research.
Faith in Action
June 18-June 29: Session 1

In this enrichment camp, students team up with our AMHS Campus Ministry staff to deepen their relationship with God and others and put their faith into action with fun and engaging activities, including outreach projects to support local communities in need. Students need only to sign up for one session to fulfill the AMHS Christian Service requirement for freshman year. Registration for this camp closes on May 18, 2018.
Introduction to College Preparatory English
July 2 - July 20

Introduction to College Preparatory English is a one semester (3 week) enrichment class intended to benefit students in need of reading and writing skills improvement to ensure academic success in English 1. Coursework includes daily close reading, reading quizzes, class discussions, group activities, and short-writing assignments on literary elements and issues within the Summer Reading novel. Writing strategies are taught sequentially beginning with diagnostic interviews, short paragraph writing, and finally a short essay that is assesses the organization and development of written expression.
Introduction to Spanish
July 2 - July 13

In this enrichment camp, students begin the study of the Spanish language to help them acclimate to a Spanish-speaking classroom environment. Students are introduced to pronunciation, basic greetings, and useful and fun vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on developing communication skills with the goal that students acquire some basic language skills and gain confidence in using a new language.
Sports Medicine and Athletic Training
July 16 - July 20
9:00 am - 11:00 am
Have you ever considered a career in medicine? In this enrichment camp, students receive hands-on instruction in a variety of athletic training skills required for the field of sports medicine and athletic training. Basic skills in athletic training that include preventive taping, wound care techniques, emergency care and prevention will be taught. By the end of camp students become certified for both C.P.R. and First Aid.
