Monarch Madness XXVI is here!

The 26th edition of Monarch Madness will take place this Thursday evening at the City National Civic in downtown San Jose. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event should end at about 10:00 p.m. Bring your enthusiasm for not only your child's class but the school, as we celebrate our entire community. Artificial noisemakers (air horns, cowbells, etc.) are not allowed in the Civic, but your cheering and clapping will more than make up for it!

Public parking is available downtown and the VTA light rail station is located directly outside the front doors of the Civic. Go to the Student Life page on mitty.com, and click on the Monarch Madness link for all the details. If your student has not replied to the email sent last week about Monarch Madness wristbands, he or she will have until 11:59 p.m. TONIGHT (Monday, February 27th) to do so.

There will be a special homeroom this Thursday, March 2nd, at 8:25 a.m. during which students will receive official wristbands for quick entry into the City National Civic. Students will also need their current IDs to be admitted into the event. GO MONARCHS!!!!!!!

What Are We Doing for Lent?

During the Lenten Season, Campus Ministry will help our community deepen its faith through Lent, a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Ash Wednesday Mass
We will have Mass at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1st, in the Fien Gymnasium to mark the beginning of Lent. All students are invited.

Ash Wednesday Prayer & Reconciliation Services
All religion classes will go to the chapel on Wednesday, March 1st, or Thursday, March 2nd, to participate in a Lenten prayer and reconciliation service.

Weekly Mass
As we do all school year, we have mass in the chapel on Monday afternoon at 2:45 p.m.

Contemplative Prayer in Chapel
During Lent, we are inviting faculty, staff, and students to join together for contemplative prayer in the chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:45 p.m. - 2:55 p.m. It is a great way to simply sit in silence, center oneself, and slow down during Lent.

Solidarity Dinner
Created by students, the Solidarity Dinner is a special gathering that allows students to express solidarity with the numerous people they encounter on their immersion trips and during their service experiences. Students will share a simple rice and beans meal as a reminder of the simple lifestyle shared by many around the world. The dinner will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5th, in the Aymar Events Center. This is a student event.School Spirit

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl
This week marks the beginning of Lent, a period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for Catholics. Each year, AMHS participates in the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl program. Students and families are invited to contribute money to their "Rice Bowls" in order to aid the widespread work of Catholic Relief Services. To learn more about how participation in CRS Rice Bowl helps us to enter into the spirit of Lent, please visit the CRS: What is Lent? website. Remember to bring your donations to your religion classes or Campus Ministry. You can also check this email weekly for a Lenten reflection inspired by Catholic Relief Services' work around the world, Catholic social teaching, and weekly fasting themes.

Counseling

SENIORS
As you hear back from colleges, please update your Naviance account and let your recommenders know the good news.

For California State Universities (CSUs), please make sure to check your specific application portal account for any important to-do items (i.e. missing documentation, housing application, additional testing, etc.). Your counselor does not have access to these accounts, so you would need to notify your counselor if a college is missing information or documents.

FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS
You will meet with your counselor to review your tentative 2017-18 schedules starting March 16th. The schedule is as follows:

March 16th & 17th: Juniors in religion classes
March 20th & 21st: Sophomores in social studies classes
March 22nd & 23rd: Freshmen in English classes

Please review the course descriptions on the school's website for prerequisite requirements and options. If applicable, you will be ranking classes on your scheduled day. Your counselor will review your course load to make sure that it is balanced and manageable with your activities.
