This casual dance will be held for Archbishop Mitty students after the men's home basketball game against Bellarmine. Don't miss the last on campus dance of the year. Monarch Madness XXVI
A magical night for Archbishop Mitty High School is coming soon, on March 2nd! The school will host its 26th edition of Monarch Madness, and students, faculty, and families alike will feel the true spirit of what it means to be a Monarch as they gather in the City National Civic in downtown San Jose. The evening emcompasses a themed production filled with music, costumes, choreographed dances, games, and a ROAR finale. The freshmen will swing into the Civic with the shenanigans of Space Jam; sophomores will attempt to succeed with courage and action in Mulan; juniors will save the city from the sudden invasion of spirits, spooks and slime with The Ghostbusters; and seniors will embrace the twists and turns of their search in Stranger Things.

If your student was picked for the team, contracts are due to Student Activities this week, on Wednesday, January 25th. The first practice will be held on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. and all student team members will report to Fien Gymnasium. Ticket information will come next week.

Requesting an Advanced Placement Exam for an AP Course
You Aren't Taking

All students who are enrolled in an AP course are required to take the corresponding AP Exam for that course; and nothing is required of those students in terms of ordering an exam to take; the ordering is done by the school. Occasionally, however, a student desires to take an AP exam for a course he or she is not taking. The school can usually accommodate that request, but that requires planning by the school, a written request by a parent, and approval of the request by the school administration.

Therefore, any student who wishes to take an AP exam for a course in which he or she is not enrolled must contact Ms. Lauren Matusich, AP Exam Coordinator, by emailing lmatusich@mitty.com to request that an exam be ordered. The deadline for such requests is January 31st. After the student contacts Ms. Matusich, she will be in communication with the parent(s) and with the administration to authorize the ordering of an exam, since each exam costs $93 and is billed to the student's Mitty account.

Because of the cost of the exam and the resulting missed class time to take the exam, the school does not encourage students to take AP exams for courses in which they are not enrolled. Despite this, plausible reasons for doing so can include any of the following: 1) the AP course for that exam is not currently offered at AMHS and the student has undertaken preparation outside of Mitty for the AP exam; 2) the student wishes to re-take an AP exam from a prior year; or 3) in rare instances, the student has taken non-AP courses and excelled to the degree that he or she is prepared for success on the AP exam.

Adult Spirituality Series: Beginnings - Looking at an Ancient Text with New Eyes
School Spirit

Thursday, February 9th
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Archbishop Mitty High School Chapel

You are cordially invited to join us in the tradition of Catholic biblical scholarship, as we highlight the importance of historical and cultural context in interpreting Scripture. Using this approach, we will explore perhaps one the most well known but arguably one of the most misinterpreted biblical texts: the creation accounts in Genesis. The evening discussion will include a discussion of the theological implications that arise from the narrative and what they might mean for us as persons of faith today. Mrs. Christina McDougall, AMHS religious studies teacher, will be our guest lecturer. The evening will begin with drinks and light hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. in the Monarch Room. Please note the change in location from our event in October. RSVP here.

Financial Aid Applications Due February 6th

Archbishop Mitty High School, under the auspices of the Diocese of San Jose, is pleased to
introduce our new financial aid management company, FACTS, which will collect and evaluate levels of financial aid need for the 2017-2018 school year. FACTS purchased PSAS earlier this year and as our returning families will see, most of the information, guidelines, and documentation will be similar to the format of the PSAS application.

All families requesting financial aid will be directed to our website to create an account with FACTS. Applications must be submitted online. Supporting documentation, including 2016 W-2s and 2015 federal tax returns, should be uploaded, faxed, or mailed. This is a secure online process, where you will provide a username and a password. After creating your account, you can login whenever it is convenient. Once logged in, you can fill out the application; update, change, and save information; track your progress; and communicate directly with helpful and knowledgeable FACTS staff members. The application is easy to navigate and is available in English and Spanish.

Only one application per household is required. If you are a returning family, you will be able to log in to your 2016-2017 PSAS application for reference. Financial aid applications are now available through our website, mitty.com, and are due February 6th. Families who want to be considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is awarded on a need-basis only.

Athletics Report

Women's Soccer Team Defeats Presentation
The women's soccer team bounced back from a 1-1 tie against Valley Christian last week by securing a hard fought 1-0 win against Presentation this weekend. A pair of juniors produced the winning goal, with Chloe Cacoyannis giving a well-placed corner kick in the 29th minute that Macy McHale slotted home. Freshman keeper Julia Alvarez made some excellent saves to preserve the shutout in an extremely tight WCAL race.

Women's Basketball Team Defeats Saint Ignatius
The women's basketball team defeated St. Ignatius with a 72-51 win this weekend, defending their spot at the top of the WCAL. The Monarchs are currently undefeated in their league, with an impressive 3-0 record. The Monarchs started off slowly in the first quarter but by the time they reached halftime, they had built a 43-28 lead. The Monarchs displayed a strong, cohesive offense, with three teammates contributing points in the double digits. Sophomore Ania McNicholas and junior Nicole Blakes each chipped in 10 points, while senior Madeline Holland contributed 13 points. Junior Karisma Ortiz had 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, and handed out three assists, which earned her recognition as the AMHS Player of the Game on MaxPreps. The Monarchs are currently ranked No. 2 both in the state and in the nation.
