Corporate Internship Parent/Student Information Meeting

We will be hold a second informational night for interested students and parents who are want to learn more about the Corporate Internship Program. It will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19th, in the Aymar Events Center. If you attended the first meeting on Monday, January 9th, you do not have to attend this second meeting. The program is open to sophomores and juniors who will turn 16 years old by June 1st. Archbishop Mitty's Corporate Internship Program includes seminars on how to write a resume and interview for a job. The student will submit a resume and letters of recommendation to our committee and then have the experience of actually interviewing with a professional. We will then place students with exciting Silicon Valley companies where the students will work FOR PAY during the summer. While not all students are selected for a position, the experience of writing the resume and interviewing is well worth the effort. If you need more information, email Mrs. Prescott at mprescott@mitty.com.

Corporate Internship Resume Workshop
Students participating in the 2017 Corporate Internship Program should plan to attend one of four mandatory resume writing workshops for 30 minutes on Tuesday, January 24th, or Wednesday, January 25th. Requesting an Advanced Placement Exam for an AP Course
You Aren't Taking

All students who are enrolled in an AP course are required to take the corresponding AP Exam for that course; and nothing is required of those students in terms of ordering an exam to take; the ordering is done by the school. Occasionally, however, a student desires to take an AP exam for a course he or she is not taking. The school can usually accommodate that request, but that requires planning by the school, a written request by a parent, and approval of the request by the school administration.

Therefore, any student who wishes to take an AP exam for a course in which he or she is not enrolled must contact Ms. Lauren Matusich, AP Exam Coordinator, by emailing lmatusich@mitty.com to request that an exam be ordered. The deadline for such requests is January 31st. After the student contacts Ms. Matusich, she will be in communication with the parent(s) and with the administration to authorize the ordering of an exam, since each exam costs $93 and is billed to the student’s Mitty account.

Because of the cost of the exam and the resulting missed class time to take the exam, the school does not encourage students to take AP exams for courses in which they are not enrolled. Despite this, plausible reasons for doing so can include any of the following: 1) the AP course for that exam is not currently offered at AMHS and the student has undertaken preparation outside of Mitty for the AP exam; 2) the student wishes to re-take an AP exam from a prior year; or 3) in rare instances, the student has taken non-AP courses and excelled to the degree that he or she is prepared for success on the AP exam.

New Financial Aid Information Due February 6th

Archbishop Mitty High School, under the auspices of the Diocese of San Jose, is pleased to
introduce our new financial aid management company, FACTS, which will collect and evaluate levels of financial aid need for the 2017-2018 school year. FACTS purchased PSAS earlier this year and as our returning families will see, most of the information, guidelines, and documentation will be similar to the format of the PSAS application.

All families requesting financial aid will be directed to our website to create an account with FACTS. Applications must be submitted online. Supporting documentation, including 2016 W-2s and 2015 federal tax returns, should be uploaded, faxed, or mailed. This is a secure online process, where you will provide a username and a password. After creating your account, you can log in whenever it is convenient. Once logged in, you can fill out the application; update, change, and save information; track your progress; and communicate directly with helpful and knowledgeable FACTS staff members. The application is easy to navigate and is available in English and Spanish.

Only one application per household is required. If you are a returning family, you will be able to log in to your 2016-2017 PSAS application for reference. Financial aid applications are now available through our website, mitty.com, and are due February 6th. Families who want to be considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is awarded on a need-basis only.

Adult Spirituality Series: Beginnings - Looking at an Ancient Text
with New Eyes
School Spirit

Thursday, February 9th
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Archbishop Mitty High School Chapel

You are cordially invited to join us in the tradition of Catholic biblical scholarship, as we highlight the importance of historical and cultural context in interpreting Scripture. Using this approach, we will explore perhaps one the most well known but arguably one of the most misinterpreted biblical texts: the creation accounts in Genesis. The evening's discussion will conclude with a discussion of the theological implications that arise from the narrative and what they might mean for us as persons of faith today. Mrs. Christina McDougall, AMHS religious studies teacher, will be our guest lecturer. The evening will begin with drinks and light hor d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. in the Monarch Room. Please note the change in location from our event in October. RSVP here.
