The Mother/Daughter Communion Brunch will be held on September 25th.

This is the 20th anniversary of the Archbishop Mitty High School Mother/Daughter Communion Brunch. Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Fien Gymnasium followed by a brunch in the Aymar Events Center. All faiths are welcome and encouraged to attend. Formal invitations have been mailed home. RSVP and payment must be made by September 20th. Student Activities

Student Club Faire This Friday
This Friday, September 23th, Student Activities will host its annual fall Club Faire. This event showcases more than 45 Archbishop Mitty clubs. It allows students to take part in activities and to sign up for new endeavors. The faire takes place during the Friday activity period at 9:55 a.m.

Freshman Representatives Elected
During last week's divisional meetings, 34 freshmen gave speeches to their class as part of the election process. Each one is commended for going through the process and putting up posters for all students to see. Congratulations to the following who were elected as freshman representatives: Shreya Balusu, Bradley Caldwell, Naman Dandia, Daniel Edmunds, Luca Filiz, Quinn Hasenkamp, John Lee, Andrea Smith, and
Jasmine Yee.

Fall AMBA Jamba Is Coming
On Wednesday, October 5th, our 16-team, co-ed intramural basketball tournament will return to campus beginning at 4:30 p.m. The teams will be showing off their "skills" on the court in front of friends and family. Each team is guaranteed two games with prizes awarded to the tournament champion, runner-up, and winner of the consolation bracket. The first 16 teams will make up the evening's tournament. Encourage your students to get their friends together, make a team, and take part in this fun-filled night of basketball. Forms and rules are available in Student Activities.

Performing ArtsSchool Spirit

Casting Call for Young Actors for Les Miserables
Our Performing Arts Department is seeking young actors, between the ages of 7 and 12 years old, for the roles of Gavroche, young Cosette, and young Eponine for our upcoming production of Les Miserables: School Edition. Auditions will be by appointment only on Monday, October 3rd, on the Archbishop Mitty campus. Peter and the Starcatcher

Tickets on sale now!
Our first production of the year, Peter and the Starcatcher, upends the century old story of how a miserable orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan. Featuring 23 actors portraying 100 unforgettable characters, Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and imagination to bring the story of pirates, jungle tyrants, and unlikely heroes to life. Performances run October 7-15th. Tickets can be purchased online for $14 for adults and $10 for students. Get your tickets today!

PSAT/Activities Day: Wednesday, October 19th

On Tuesday, September 6th, you should have received an email from the school that summarizes the following information:
On the near horizon is October 19th, set aside as PSAT/Activities Day. On this day, regular class sessions are suspended for the day and the four class divisions undertake the following:

All freshmen come to school and then travel by AMHS-provided bus to do service at local agencies (on campus by 7:50 a.m; back to campus and excused for the day at 1:00 p.m).

All sophomores take the PSAT exam on campus (on campus by 8:45 a.m; test concludes and excused for the day by 12:30 p.m.).

All juniors take the PSAT exam on campus (on campus by 8:45 a.m.; test concludes and excused for the day by 12:30 p.m.).

Seniors are encouraged to visit local colleges and universities.

During the week of September 7th, an email was sent to each AMHS family with more details regarding the events of October 19th.

Please note the following:
• Attendance is required of every freshman, sophomore, and junior. Roll will be taken, as on any regular class day.

• You do not need to register your student to take the PSAT exam; the school has already done that for every sophomore and junior.

• The cafeteria will not be open for food service on this day.

Sophomore/Junior/Senior Evening College Faire
During the evening of October 19th, the Counseling Department will host a College Faire. College representatives from across the United States will be present in Fien Gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to answer any questions about their colleges or universities. AMHS students, and their parents, are invited to attend.

NCAA Informational Session
The Counseling Department, in conjunction with the Athletic Department, will host a NCAA Informational Night on October 19th, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.. The event is open to all families of student-athletes who want to play a sport in college. It will include an overview of NCAA eligibility requirements and the recruitment process. A panel of coaches and current student-athletes will be available to field questions. This session will be offered in the Aymar Events Center.

FRESHMEN
Counselors will be in freshman religion classes this Monday and Tuesday to review the following:

• What to expect freshman year

• Role of the counselor

• Tips from AMHS graduates

• Naviance - an interactive college planning tool

In addition, we recommend that you read How to Get Good Grades and Getting the Most Out of High School. These books were provided to parents who attended Freshman Parent Night. Parents who didn’t attend will receive the books in the mail.

SOPHOMORES
Counselors will be in sophomre religion classes this Monday and Tuesday to review the following:

• PSAT

• How to read your transcript

• Changes in the sophomore year

• Enrichment programs & college search

Our Sophomore Parent Night will be on November 9th. Please mark your calendar. Your student's counselor will email you details a week before the event.

Athletics Report

Women's Volleyball wins the Durango Fall Classic
Over the weekend, the women's varsity volleyball team competed in the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas, one of the premier high school tournaments in the nation. In the end, the Monarchs came away champions, defeating Xavier College Prep (Az) 25-23, 25-19 in the final and taking top honors for the tournament.

"To win a tournament like this, every athlete has to have fortitude and be responsible for her part of the product," explained Head Coach Bret Almazan-Cezar. "Every player on this team did that."

This victory launches the Monarchs to sixth in the nation. Four Monarchs were named to the Durango All-Tournament Team: juniors Kamrin Caoili, Julia DeVine, MaKaela Tanaka and senior Candice Denny.

Field Hockey Wins Fifth Consecutive GameSchool Spirit
The field hockey team had another strong week, with three victories to take its overall record to 5-0. The Monarchs started last week with a dominant 3-0 victory over Presentation, followed by a 4-0 win against Prospect. On Friday they finished the week with a 2-1 win against Davis High School. Senior Shea Gavin has been a standout on the team this year. In their five games this season, Gavin scored 4 goals and has had 5 assists.

Friday's Varsity Football Game to be Live Streamed

The varsity football team will be playing Sacred Heart Cathedral this Friday, with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off at Foothill College. Can't attend the game? Booster Passes 2016-2017 School YearSchool Spirit

The AMHS Booster Pass admits the entire family (two parents, all school-age children) to all home games for AMHS teams. The booster pass can provide you with significant savings, as home contests carry a $5 adult charge. We have five home football games, numerous home volleyball games and basketball games. The cost of the pass is $125 dollars. You will also receive a booster baseball cap. The AMHS Booster Pass cannot be used for playoff games. Your name will be immediately added to the gate list allowing entrance with or without your booster pass card. The card can be purchased online by selecting Booster Pass from the Quick Links menu or by clicking here.

It's Not Too Late to Sign Up for myschoolbucks.com!

In case you missed this super opportunity or have just forgotten that it is an option, Archbishop Mitty High School offers myschoolbucks.com as a convenient way to pay for, and monitor, your hungry teenager's meals during school.

It's easy! Just go to Quick Links on the AMHS website, and find "Cafeteria Cash Card." The link will feature myschoolbucks.com. Set up a new account, add your student's name and student ID number, and add funds from your credit card or bank account. You can add money any time or set up auto-payments. You can also review your student's cafeteria purchases and receive low balance notifications.

There is a $15 fee per student per school year for the use of the myschoolbucks.com service. There is a $2 fee for every online payment transaction and every payment takes 24 hours to process. Cash will always be accepted in the cafeteria, but those frantic Monday mornings or last minute demands for cash on your way to school, will be things of the past when you sign up for myschoolbucks.com. It's convenient, secure, and one less thing you have to think about!

Your student can also drop off in the Front Office a check, payable to Epicurean, in any amount and the funds will be credited to your lunch account. There is no fee for this method of payment.

Parent Pledge Annual Campaign

Annual parent pledge has begun. No other gift program benefits your student more directly. The funds raised go directly to the operating budget to fund enhanced academic and extracurricular programs for your child and other Monarchs. As an added bonus, many corporations are willing to match your gift. Your employer can advise you if your company has a matching gift program. Thank you to the many families who have responded so generously. The program is being coordinated by Mary Jane Schmidt in the Advancement Office.
