Book Drive February 1st-9thCampus Ministry is teaming up with St. Vincent de Paul to host a book drive for Books 4 Hope. Students should bring in new or gently used books to the drop off bins in the library. All types of books are needed - textbooks included! Thank you in advance for your support of this cause! |
2016 Santa Clara County Mock Trial Competition BeginThe Mock Trial team has been working hard since September to prepare for the 2016 Santa Clara County Mock Trial Competition, which kicks off preliminary rounds this week. The first round of the competition will be held at the Santa Clara Superior Courthouse in downtown San Jose on Tuesday, February 2nd, at 6:00 p.m., with the second round to follow on Thursday, February 4th. All are welcome to come support our team and witness the dramatic trial of a young college student accused of involuntary manslaughter and second-degree murder. CounselingParentsThe counseling department is happy to announce our new Parent Resource page available at http://www.mitty.com/counseling/parent-resources. This page has links to books, websites, and articles related to a wide variety of topics which include anxiety, behavior issues, depression, learning differences, mental and developmental health, parenting, social-cognition, friendship, and sleep. While these are helpful resources, we encourage parents and students alike to contact counselors with any concerns. Freshmen This week, counselors will present the following information in your religion classes: • Course placement and prerequisites for sophomore year • Transcript and GPA • Time management, sleep and a balanced schedule Please do not hesitate to contact your counselor if you have any questions. Sophomores This week, counselors will present the following information in your religion classes: • Course placement and prerequisites for junior year • Transcript and GPA • PSAT Scores • Time management Please do not hesitate to contact your counselor if you have any questions. Juniors This semester, counselors will be meeting with juniors and their parent(s) to review the college planning process, SAT/ACT test plan, and course placement for next year. These appointments will take place during one of the student's free periods or after school. The easiest way to schedule an appointment is to contact Mrs. Nina Duquette (nduquette@mitty.com). Before the meeting, the student should complete the following items: • College Planning Questionnaire Class of 2017 • Updated Resume If you have specific questions, please contact your counselor. Seniors Now that applications are winding down, please note the following: • Mid-Year Reports (7th semester grades) were sent to your Common App colleges on or before January 29th. • CSUs and UCs communicate strictly through email. You should check your email regularly and complete any outstanding to-do items. Please also create your CSU Portal to check your application status for individual campuses. • As you hear back from colleges, update your application status on Family Connection and notify your counselor. |
Literary MagazineVolume 2, Number 1 Now AvailableThe latest edition of The Muse (AMHS Student Literary Magazine) has been published. This edition, the second for The Muse, contains poetry, short fiction, and photography from Mitty's talented students. The editors would like to thank all the students who submitted their work last semester, and they are excited to share this almost 60-page magazine with the Mitty community. Freshman Date ChangeFreshman Homeroom Added for February 26thPlease note the addition of a freshman homeroom on Friday, February 26th at 7:50 a.m. This homeroom meeting has been added to the calendar to provide important and valuable information on the Student Wellness Program at AMHS to the freshman class. All freshmen should meet in their homerooms at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, February 26th. |
Monarch Madness is Building MomentumMonarch Madness XXV is almost 30 days away! The classes are working hard to build the performances that will bring the Archbishop Mitty community together at the City National Civic on March 3rd. Practices continue this week on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m., then on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. If your student is on the team, please remind him/her to arrive on time to check in. |

Athletics ReportMen's Wrestling Makes Statement vs. St. FrancisSpectators in the Fien Gym this past Wednesday witnessed a piece of Archbishop Mitty wrestling history as the men's varsity team scored a huge 51-21 victory over St. Francis. It was the Monarchs' first home victory in program history over the Lancers, and the team made sure there was no question about which team was on top. In a dominating display of skill, five matches were decided by pins, including sophomores Cameron Rendon (113) and Dylan Thiel (145), junior Mark Chaid (195), and seniors Daniel Woodward (160) and Blake Flovin (220). It was a truly comprehensive performance for the Monarchs and leaves the team alone in third place with two matches left in the WCAL dual meet season. Congratulations to the entire team for a great showing! |
