Counseling

Campus Visits
This week marks the beginning of on-campus visits from college admissions representatives from around the country. These visits offer students the opportunity to have direct contact with the colleges on your application lists, to learn more about the school and program offerings, and to receive information about the admissions process for each respective school.

Seniors
If you have class during a scheduled visit for a school on your college list, you must do the following to attend and avoid detention:

• Complete the "College Visit Form" at least three days prior to the campus visit. Extra copies of the form are available in the Counseling Office. You must get your teacher's signature for approval.

• Sign up for the college visit in Family Connection. Login and click on the "Colleges" tab. On the right side, you will see "Upcoming College Visits." Click on that tab and you can sign up on the left hand side.

Freshmen, Sophomores, & Juniors - You are encouraged to attend as long as the visit is during your off period or lunch. You can sign up for the visit in Family Connection, but you do not need to get a visit form. You may not miss class to attend a college visit.

Freshmen
This week the Counseling Department will be presenting in the freshman religion classrooms. We will cover the following topics:

• The role of the counselor

• What to expect freshman year

• Tips from former students

• Introducing Family Connection (an interactive college planning website)

Parent Nights
Senior Parent Night is on Thursday, September 10th, starting at 6:30 p.m. Please review the email from your student’s counselor regarding location and session time. We look forward to seeing you!

Freshman Parent Night is on Thursday, September 24th, starting at 6:30 p.m. Information regarding location and sessions will be sent out a week prior. We look forward to meeting you!

Thank you to the many families who have responded so generously. The program is being coordinated by Mary Jane Schmidt in the Advancement Office. UPLIFT Support GroupSchool Spirit

Uplift is a new Campus Ministry group that Archbishop Mitty will be starting this fall. This group will be dedicated to students whose parents are going through (or have previously gone through) cancer treatment or those who have lost a parent or sibling to cancer.

Our goals are to
• Give a space where students can feel safe and speak freely with peers and know they are not alone going through this stressful time.

• Provide an environment where students going through similar experiences can connect and share coping strategies.

• Have a venue where students can work through difficult emotions via art, journaling, meditation, group discussions, speakers or walks, for example.

Uplift will be moderated by Archbishop Mitty teachers who have personal experiences dealing with cancer, as well as a school counselor. We will provide a monthly lunch for the Uplift participants, followed by games, creative projects, discussions and other activities.

If you would like more information about Uplift or your student would like to be a part of this group this year please email Rose Lopez at rlopez@mitty.com.
