Welcome to a New School Year at Archbishop Mitty!I can't wait until our halls are once again filled with the sights and sounds of 1700 students. This place is a little too quiet for me at the beginning of August. I am also looking forward to what the seniors' first-day-of-school theme might be this year. And, of course, I am looking forward to hearing you all sing our new theme song, "Unpack Your Heart." As the song proclaims, "Oh, I'm on your side. So shed your shadow and watch it rise. Registrar's OfficeSchedulesAll students will receive a copy of their schedules in homeroom the first day of classes on Wednesday, August 19th. Homeroom locations will be posted throughout campus. Student Schedule Change Deadline - September 2nd The final deadline for students to make changes to their schedules is Wednesday, September 2nd. All student schedules will be finalized at that time. Students should meet with their counselors to discuss course or level changes. Counselors will explain the process for requesting changes. |
Counselor Changes/Welcome LettersNew students and students with counselor changes will receive a welcome letter from their counselors this week. Students who wish to discuss a counselor change can contact Mrs. Duquette in the Counseling Office at nduquette@mitty.com. Fall Tryout InformationAll athletes who intend to tryout for a fall sport need to submit an Intent to Try Out Registration and make sure a current Pre-Participation Physical Form (pdf) is on file with the Athletic Department. If you have not done this already, please do so immediately as athletes who have not completed these forms will not be allowed to tryout. Campus MinistryRetreat Sign-upOnline registration for all Campus Ministry retreats continues. All students are encouraged to participate and register as early as possible, as placements fill quickly. Please go to the Archbishop Mitty Campus Ministry page for retreat dates and registration. Cornerstone: Join Today! Cornerstone is a youth ministry program for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors that combines both youth group faith experiences and Christian Service in a supportive community. Once a week the group will meet and either go to a service location in the San Jose area to complete Christian service or they will stay on campus to participate in a youth group gathering. Youth group gatherings will be a mixture of prayer, fun community building activities, small group sharing, and discussion of important issues. There is a program in the fall and a second program in the spring. Applications for the Fall 2015 program are now available online and will close on midnight Wednesday, September 2nd. Auditions UpcomingAuditions for our two musicals, Little Women and Disney's Beauty and the Beast will take place the week school begins. The audition week starts Monday, August 17th, at 3:00 p.m. with vocal auditions and will continue Tuesday with dance auditions, also at 3:00 p.m. Students must attend both auditions to be eligible for casting. Students should prepare a vocal piece no longer than a minute in duration to perform for auditions. A piano player will be available to play pieces at the auditions, so students should have sheet music at their audition. Students may be called back Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to participate in a second round of auditions. Students can sign up for audition time slots by visiting the performing arts website at mitty.com. If for whatever reason you cannot attend either day of auditions and you still want to participate in the musicals this year, please contact Mr. Kimont to try and set up a separate audition day and time. Welcome to the New and Improved Monarch Cafe, Featuring Epicurean Group!We are excited to introduce and welcome our new cafeteria food service vendor, Epicurean Group!Epicurean Group chefs use the highest quality ingredients to prepare your student's meals. All their produce comes from farms right here in the Bay Area. They source organic produce according to the Environmental Working Group's recommendations for fruits and vegetables. All meat, poultry and cage-free eggs are also sourced from local farms and ranches that have met their high standards and all cheeses are natural. In addition, seafood will be purchased in accordance with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch guidelines. Epicurean has pledged to provide fresh, natural, and organic food prepared from scratch, every day and at every meal. We are proud to offer this high quality food service program to our students, and believe it will exceed even the pickiest eater's expectations! Service will include breakfast, lunch, and snacks. |

If you have had an account with myschoolbucks.com in the past, your log-in and password will be valid this year as well, and you only need one account per family. All your student will need is his/her ID card, distributed the first few days of school. The student ID will be synced with your account. AMPAAMPA Tailgate BBQ Food Tickets OnlyPlease plan to join us for our annual AMPA tailgate BBQ on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Foothill College. The tailgate runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 per person. Tailgaters will have a choice of burger or grilled chicken, plus chili, potato salad, and drink. (Meat choices are on a first come first served basis). This event is open to all Archbishop Mitty students, families, and friends. To purchase tickets for the BBQ go to the Archbishop Mitty web page and click on Parents. Then go to AMPA "Purchase AMPA Events" where you can purchase your food tickets or do so by clicking here. Mock TrialInformational Meeting & Attorney TryoutsFor all of those students who love courtroom dramas, who want to learn more about legal arguments, or who enjoy learning about Federal and State Superior Court cases, please consider trying out to be a Mock Trial attorney. The team is looking for a number of attorneys for the 2015-2016 competition season. Interested students must attend one of two informational meetings on either Wednesday, August 26th, at 2:45 p.m. or Thursday, August 27th, at 7:15 a.m. in Room 504. UPLIFT Support GroupUplift is a new Campus Ministry group that Archbishop Mitty will be starting in the fall of 2015. This group will be dedicated to students whose parents are going through (or have previously gone through) cancer treatment or those who have lost a parent to cancer. |
School of Outstanding DistinctionTop 10 in the NationCongratulations to our speech and debate team for earning the highest sweepstakes award possible at the National Tournament in Texas this past June. The "school of outstanding distinction" award is given to the top 10 schools in the nation, out of almost 1000 competing, who accumulated the most combined speech and debate points at the National Tournament. We also had our first ever Speech and Debate national finalists. Alumni Anne Hunt '15 and Will Haubl '15 advanced to compete in the final round of Duo Interp, and Senior Pranav Govindaraju advanced to the final round of Congressional Debate. Although we will miss the 42 graduated seniors, we are very excited to welcome 57 new members to our Speech and Debate family. Good luck to the team as it begins preparing for the new competitive season!  |
Back to School Night Thursday, September 3, 2015 6:30 p.m.Back to School Night for parents is scheduled for Thursday evening, September 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. The evening is structured as a mini-schedule of your student's day. The night will begin with a short presentation in the Fien Gymnasium promptly at 6:30 p.m. You will then go to your student's homeroom and pick up your student's schedule of classes. Following this, you will spend ten minutes in each of your student's classes. Members of the administration and counseling staff will be available all evening in the Aymar Events Center. Please note: Traffic into the campus will be heavy; come early to find a parking space. |
