Welcome to a New School Year at Archbishop Mitty!
I can't wait until our halls are once again filled with the sights and sounds of 1700 students. This place is a little too quiet for me at the beginning of August. I am also looking forward to what the seniors' first-day-of-school theme might be this year. And, of course, I am looking forward to hearing you all sing our new theme song, "Unpack Your Heart." As the song proclaims, "Oh, I'm on your side. So shed your shadow and watch it rise. Into your darkness I'll shine a light." What a great message with which to begin our year together. See you soon.

Cornerstone: Join Today!
Cornerstone is a youth ministry program for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors that combines both youth group faith experiences and Christian Service in a supportive community. Once a week the group will meet and either go to a service location in the San Jose area to complete Christian service or they will stay on campus to participate in a youth group gathering. Youth group gatherings will be a mixture of prayer, fun community building activities, small group sharing, and discussion of important issues.
There is a program in the fall and a second program in the spring. Applications for the Fall 2015 program are now available online and will close on midnight Wednesday, September 2nd. There is a $50.00 program fee. For more information, go to our Campus Ministry Page. To apply, go to your Christian Service Profile. |

Auditions Upcoming
Auditions for our two musicals, Little Women and Disney's Beauty and the Beast will take place the week school begins. The audition week starts Monday, August 17th, at 3:00 p.m. with vocal auditions and will continue Tuesday with dance auditions, also at 3:00 p.m. Students must attend both auditions to be eligible for casting. Students should prepare a vocal piece no longer than a minute in duration to perform for auditions. A piano player will be available to play pieces at the auditions, so students should have sheet music at their audition. Students may be called back Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to participate in a second round of auditions. Students can sign up for audition time slots by visiting the performing arts website at mitty.com. If for whatever reason you cannot attend either day of auditions and you still want to participate in the musicals this year, please contact Mr. Kimont to try and set up a separate audition day and time. If you have any other questions, please email Mr. Kimont at mkimont@mitty.com. |

Online Lunch Payment System Available
myschoolbucks.com our lunch program host and portal, gives parents an easier and more convenient way to manage and add funds to a student's lunch account. If you have had an account with myschoolbucks.com in the past, your log-in and password will be valid this year as well, and you only need one account per family. If you are new to the resource, please take a look at the ease and convenience of having a pre-paid lunch program, eliminating that last minute scramble for money on the way to school! All your student will need is his/her ID card, distributed the first few days of school. The student ID will be synced with your account. Just a swipe of the card in the cafeteria will allow a student to make a purchase!
With mySchoolBucks, you can review recent purchases, check balances, and receive low balance alerts. For a small fee, you can add money to your student's account using Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card or debit cards. You may also pay directly from your checking account. One of the most popular features is a "Set and Forget" payment option, which automatically adds funds to your student's lunch account: weekly, monthly or when the balance runs low!
Enrollment is easy!
Go to mitty.com and find "Cafeteria Cash Card" under Quick Links (you can also go directly to mySchoolBucks.com). A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provide. Click on the link to setup your account. Once you activate your account, add your student's name(s) and student's ID. You can deposit up to $200 per transaction into your student's account with your credit or debit card, or electronic check for a $2.50 handling fee. In addition and new this year, you or your student can drop off or mail a check, payable to Epicurean Group, for any amount and no handling fee. There is an activation fee of $15 per student for the 2015-2016 school year. Money generally appears within 24 hours. All connections to mySchoolBucks are encrypted with a 256-bit encryption, providing the highest level of protection and security. It's fast, convenient and it's CASH-LESS! But please note: this service is entirely optional and cash will always be accepted in the cafeteria. |

UPLIFT Support Group Uplift is a new Campus Ministry group that Archbishop Mitty will be starting in the fall of 2015. This group will be dedicated to students whose parents are going through (or have previously gone through) cancer treatment or those who have lost a parent to cancer.
Our goals are to • Give a space where students can feel safe and speak freely with peers and know they are not alone going through this stressful time.
• Provide an environment where students going through similar experiences can connect and share coping strategies.
• Have a venue where students can work through difficult emotions via art, journaling, meditation, group discussions, speakers or walks, for example.
Uplift will be moderated by Archbishop Mitty teachers who have personal experiences dealing with cancer, as well as a school counselor. We will provide a monthly lunch for the Uplift participants, followed by games, creative projects, discussions and other activities.
If you would like more information about Uplift or your student would like to be a part of this group next year please email Rose Lopez at rlopez@mitty.com. |

School of Outstanding Distinction
Top 10 in the Nation
Congratulations to our speech and debate team for earning the highest sweepstakes award possible at the National Tournament in Texas this past June. The "school of outstanding distinction" award is given to the top 10 schools in the nation, out of almost 1000 competing, who accumulated the most combined speech and debate points at the National Tournament. We also had our first ever Speech and Debate national finalists. Alumni Anne Hunt '15 and Will Haubl '15 advanced to compete in the final round of Duo Interp, and Senior Pranav Govindaraju advanced to the final round of Congressional Debate. Although we will miss the 42 graduated seniors, we are very excited to welcome 57 new members to our Speech and Debate family. Good luck to the team as it begins preparing for the new competitive season!
