Sock Drive in Honor of Loukas
We would like to invite all members of the Archbishop Mitty community to help the Angelo family honor Loukas's memory. As most of you know, Loukas had a love of crazy socks. So, we have joined with the Angelo family and other school communities in a sock drive. We invite you to donate new socks to someone who desperately needs them. The family is teaming with an organization called Soles4Souls, which sends shoes to those living in poverty in developing countries. This year, because of your generosity, the organization will be able to send much needed socks as well. Please bring lots of new socks to school and deposit them in bins that are located in the foyer, as well as in Student Activities and Campus Ministry. Your participation and your generosity are truly appreciated. The Sock Drive will end this Tuesday, October 27th. |

Student Activities
Spirit Week is Officially Underway!
At last week's divisional meetings each class discovered its theme for Spirit Week 2015. In their first year, the freshmen will begin their quest in Finding Nemo. Sophomores will give their all and represent with Dodgeball. Juniors will try to fulfill their lifelong dreams in Up! The seniors will rewind the clock in Back to the Future. As always, each class is designated a color for the year. Freshmen wear green, sophomores red, juniors blue, and the seniors wear black. Descriptions of each day's activities and dress themes can be found on the Student Life page under Spirit Week. Spirit Week officially begins on Sunday, November 1st, with the annual workday on campus from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to show up and help their classes with painting and artwork. It's a great time for fun and camaraderie.
Spirit Week Shirt Sales
This week, class theme shirts for Spirit Week will be on sale for $10 each. As a reminder, unlike the spirit shirts at the beginning of the year, not all students will receive these shirts. Each class is provided with a limited number of shirts, and Spirit Week points will be awarded to the classes that sell out most quickly. So, consider this a contest of sorts. To avoid any confusion or misunderstanding, we want to make all parents aware of this fact. The sale of shirts will take place during the lunch periods on Thursday, October 29th.
Homecoming Dance Is Getting Closer
With the Homecoming Dance happening in just two weeks, here are some important details that you and your students should be aware of:
1. The dance will take place on Saturday, November 7th, as the official end of Spirit Week.
2. Guest pass forms are due on Tuesday, November 3rd, to Student Activities. Students can always bring them in earlier if they would like to. Tickets for non-Mitty students must be purchased by this date. Click here to access the form.
3. TICKETS CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED ONLINE FOR THIS DANCE! No tickets will be sold out of the Student Activities Office or at the door.
4. Ticket are now available for sale online. Click here to access the ticketing login. Sales will run until November 7th at 3:00 pm. Prices will be $10 per person and $20 per couple. |

Student Wellness
Parent Education Program (PEP) Speaker Series Begins November 18th
The Archbishop Mitty Administration and Student Wellness Committee are pleased to introduce the first of two Parent Education Program (PEP) talks this year. The first talk "Boosting Your Teen's Emotional Well-Being" will feature Gina Biegel, MA, LMFT, an author and psychotherapist who teaches mindfulness techniques at her Stressed Teens program (www.stressedteens.com). Ms. Biegel will provide tips and tools that parents may use to help improve a teen's functioning and quality of living socially, physically, and psychologically. The PEP Talk will be held on Wednesday, November 18th, at 7:00 p.m. Please take a minute to RSVP for this special evening, which will conclude by 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The location will be determined once RSVPs have been received. |

Campus Ministry
Confirmation
The Archbishop Mitty High School Confirmation Program prepares students for full initiation in the Catholic Church. Our Confirmation takes place during the sophomore year. The AMHS Campus Ministry Department invites all sophomores who have been baptized and have a desire to be fully initiated into the Catholic community to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The AMHS Confirmation Program helps a student to incorporate experiences of retreats, religion classes, and Christian service in order to strengthen his or her Catholic identity. With the help of peer leaders, the process encourages small and large group fellowship, characteristics of discipleship, and sacramental preparation. Preparation for Confirmation will begin in early February. Online registration is now open and closes on Tuesday, December 1st. To register, please go to the AMHS website, then to Quick Links, and select Confirmation.
Immersion Information Night
There will be an Immersion Information Night in the theater on Wednesday, November 4th. We will discuss co-curricular trips from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and ECJ courses (for sophomores only) from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This important evening will allow interested students and parents to learn
about all the immersion trips Archbishop Mitty offers. See the Campus Ministry website for more information about our trips. |

Counseling
East Coast Colleges Tour Information Session for Juniors
All current juniors and their parents are invited to an information session about college tours on Wednesday, October 28th, in the Monarch Room at 6:30 p.m. Bill Rubin, the founder of East Coast Colleges Tour, will speak about his tour program for high school students. Bill has been offering tours to Catholic high school students (including Bellarmine, St. Francis, Presentation, and Notre Dame) since 1999.
Archbishop Mitty is not affiliated with East Coast Colleges Tour. This is simply an information session for families who wish to find out more about college tour programs. Please contact Mrs. Tien Menor, Counseling Department Chair, if you have any questions.
CSU Application & Workshops (Seniors)
The CSU application is now open. Please apply using the "FALL 2016" application. The deadline is November 30th (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Early Decision Deadline is October 31st). The CSU application has an express mode feature, where a student may complete one campus application, submit, and then the information will auto-populate when he/she begins a new application. Avoid opening multiple applications simultaneously. You will need the Mitty's A-G guide for your application.
In addition, the Counseling Department will offer eight CSU application workshops during lunch and after school. The remaining workshops' dates and times are
Session 6: Nov 16th 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Session 7: Nov 16th 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Session 8: Nov 16th 2:45-3:45 p.m.
Students can sign up in the Counseling Office with Mrs. Duquette. Location and details will be emailed to students before the workshop. Important - Please do NOT submit your application without reviewing it with your counselor.
Recommendation Envelopes (Seniors)
The recommendation process at AMHS includes envelopes with specific tasks that all seniors must complete before teachers and counselors can write their letters of recommendation. Seniors may pick up these envelopes from their counselors. The final deadline to submit the recommendation envelopes is November 10th. It is of utmost importance that you meet with your counselor to review your college list. If you have not met with your counselor, please schedule an appointment immediately with Mrs. Nina Duquette. If you decide to add colleges after you turn in your envelopes, you must complete a recommendation addendum. The form is available in the Counseling Office and was emailed to all Seniors.
College Visits
Seniors who have class during a scheduled visit must do the following to attend the presentation (and avoid detention):
• Sign up for the college visit in Family Connection. Login and click on the "Colleges" Tab. On the right side, you will see "Upcoming college visits." Click on that tab and you can sign up.
• Complete the "College Visit Form" at least three days prior to the visit
• Turn in the form to the Attendance Office.
• After your college visit, return to the Attendance Office for a blue slip.
Freshmen, sophomores, & juniors are encouraged to attend as long as the visit is during your off period or lunch. These students can sign up for the visit in Family Connection, but do not need to get a visit form and may not miss class to attend a college visit. |

NCAA Signing Days at AMHS
Archbishop Mitty High School hosts three NCAA Signing Days on campus each year. Information about these events was mailed home to senior parents in early September. Please take time to review the letter as well as the AMHS NCAA Signing Day website for information about which seniors qualify to participate in these signing events. Questions regarding NCAA Signing Days at AMHS should be directed to Mr. Josh Walker, Director of Athletics. The deadline to register for the November 11th NCAA Signing Day is Wednesday, November 4th. |

Athletics Report
Women's Tennis Surging Down the Stretch
A dominant pair of wins has the women's varsity tennis team in the thick of the WCAL league title race. The Monarchs opened their week last Tuesday by shutting out Notre Dame-Belmont 7-0. Sophomore Katie Petersen posted an excellent 6-1, 6-1 win in the #3 singles slot with some strong baseline play.
Two days later, the team posted a 6-1 victory over the Fighting Irish of Sacred Heart Cathedral. The doubles pair of junior Melanie Nakamura and sophomore Megan Truong featured in this one, as their outstanding net play produced a commanding 6-3, 6-1 result.
The Monarchs face league leaders St. Francis this Tuesday in a match that could decide the WCAL title. Best of luck!
Field Hockey Alone at the Top
The varsity field hockey team is in touching distance of another BVAL championship following two convincing performances last week.
The Monarchs defeated Del Mar 4-0 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd on Wednesday in the annual Senior Day game, thank to goals by senior Hannah McCabe, junior Cristina Munne, and sophomores Maddie Baker and Emily Genevriere.
The team followed that win with a 3-0 victory on Friday away at Presentation. Junior Catherine Cecilio and seniors Delaney Morse and Lauren Gengarella each tallied goals as the Monarchs posted their fifth shutout in league play. Congratulations to the entire team on another great week. |
