At Archbishop Mitty, we believe you don’t get smart just in the classroom or the library. You can also develop interpersonal skills, poise, and the ability to work with people, and have a lot of fun along the way by diving into the opportunities that we have to offer. In Student Activities, our goal is to enrich the experience of being a Monarch with a slate of student-centered programs and events throughout the year. We believe that to fully experience everything that Mitty has to offer, you need to get involved!
Do you love Mitty sports? Come to the athletic games wearing black and gold and sit in the Pit, or help paint posters after school for the big game this weekend. There is plenty to celebrate as we promote Mitty school spirit. Maybe sports aren’t your thing, but you’ve always been interested in electronics. In that case, AMHS Robotics might be a perfect fit for you. Students who want to celebrate their ethnic heritage are active in the African American Student Union, the Latin American Student Union, Italian Club, or South Asian Culture Club, just to name a few. If you’re a natural leader, try Student Government. You can also help lead your class to victory during Spirit Week or Monarch Madness by signing up to be on the team.
The point is that there is an activity at Mitty for everyone. So sign up, check out a meeting, or run for office, and live the Mitty experience to the fullest!
GO MONARCHS!
Program
Student Activities refers to the operations of Student Government and various clubs and organizations on campus. Student Government is comprised of students elected by their peers, as well as students appointed to committees. Student Government is responsible for organizing and coordinating activities such as the Magazine Drive, rallies, dances, proms, rooting sections at selected sporting events, Monarch Madness, Homecoming, senior events, school pictures, ID cards, Spirit Week, some lunchtime activities, and numerous other student services.
The student body is represented by the Associated Student Body Officers. These officers are elected in the spring and serve a one-year term. Each class is represented by divisional representatives. Divisional representatives are elected in the spring to serve one-year terms. Freshman divisional representatives are elected in the fall, after the first month of school.
Homeroom
The purpose of homeroom is to promote school-wide communications, build a sense of community and school spirit, and to encourage the development of divisional identity. Students are grouped by year and they are under the guidance of a homeroom advisor.
I.D. Cards and I.D. Numbers
Students are required to have their student I.D. cards with them at all times. The I.D. card is necessary for admittance to all AMHS events. Admission may be denied if a student does not have his or her I.D. card. The I.D. card is also used for yearbook photos (for all but seniors). Failure to take an I.D. picture will result in the student’s being omitted from the yearbook.
I.D. photos will be taken according to the schedule stated below:
- Freshmen: during freshman orientation
- Sophomores through seniors: during the first week of school.
Anyone who is not photographed during the above times must pay $10 for an I.D. card. Lost I.D. cards may be replaced for $10. Students should come to the Student Activities Office with any problems concerning I.D. cards. Each student will be given a five-digit identification number. Students should commit this number to memory. Parents must give the I.D. number when reporting absences to the Attendance Office.
