Financial Aid Applications Due Today

Archbishop Mitty High School, under the auspices of the Diocese of San Jose, is pleased to
introduce our new financial aid management company, FACTS, which will collect and evaluate levels of financial aid need for the 2017-2018 school year. FACTS purchased PSAS earlier this year and — as our returning families will see — most of the information, guidelines, and documentation will be similar to the format of the PSAS application.

All families requesting financial aid should go to our website to create an account with FACTS. Applications must be submitted online. Supporting documentation, including 2016 W-2s and 2015 federal tax returns, should be uploaded, faxed, or mailed. This is a secure online process, where you will provide a username and a password. After creating your account, you can log in whenever it is convenient. Once logged in, you can fill out the application; update, change, and save information; track your progress; and communicate directly with helpful and knowledgeable FACTS staff members. The application is easy to navigate and is available in English and Spanish.

Only one application per household is required. If you are a returning family, you will be able to log in to your 2016-2017 PSAS application for reference. Financial aid applications are now available through our website, mitty.com, and are due TODAY, February 6th. Families who want to be considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is awarded on a need-basis only.

Adult Spirituality Series: Beginnings - Looking at an Ancient Text with New Eyes
School Spirit

Thursday, February 9th
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Archbishop Mitty High School Chapel

You are cordially invited to join us in the tradition of Catholic biblical scholarship, as we highlight the importance of historical and cultural context in interpreting Scripture. Using this approach, we will explore perhaps one the most well known but arguably one of the most misinterpreted biblical texts: the creation accounts in Genesis. The evening's discussion will conclude with a discussion of the theological implications that arise from the narrative and what they might mean for us as persons of faith today. Mrs. Christina McDougall, AMHS religious studies teacher, will be our guest lecturer. The evening will begin with drinks and light hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. in the Monarch Room. Please note the change in location from our event in October. RSVP here.

Athletics Report

Men's Basketball Team Wins Consecutive League Matches
After two victories last week, the men's basketball team is climbing the WCAL standings and is currently tied for third. On Wednesday, the Monarchs took to the road and defeated Serra 62-43 in San Mateo. Junior Riley Grigsby had an impressive 28 points and 6 rebounds, freshman Devan Sapp added 13 points and 2 steals, and senior Mike Diaz made an excellent contribution of 11 points and 4 rebounds. The team continued their success as they triumphed 59-38 over Valley Christian on Saturday. The Monarchs jumped on the Warriors early, scoring the game's first 13 points and continued to stretch that lead throughout the game. Senior Matt Hicks had a breakout game leading the team with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Grigsby had a "double-double," notching an impressive 11 points and 13 rebounds along with 3 blocks, and sophomore Joseph Vaughn had a strong performance pouring in 11 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. The Monarchs look to continue their winning ways this Wednesday as they take on Sacred Heart Cathedral at home.

Women's Soccer Team Takes Fourth League Match
Last Wednesday, the varsity women's soccer team started the day in the Monarch Room celebrating seniors Monica Hrncir and Amaya Zabalza, who signed with California State University, Monterey Bay and the University of California, Santa Barbara, respectively, as part of the Winter NCAA Signing Day. By that afternoon, the team was back on the field continuing their quest for a WCAL title. They won their match with a victory that marked the team's fourth consecutive league win.

The thrilling 1-0 win against Sacred Heart Cathedral came at the end of a close game. Senior striker Kendra Wilkerson scored the defining goal. With less than a minute left on the clock, she won a tackle in her own half, then proceeded to dribble 55 yards through Fighting Irish territory to score the winning goal. It was a dramatic finish to a close match. Wilkerson was named the AMHS Women's Soccer Player of the Game by MaxPreps for her stellar performance.

Prior to this win, the Monarchs also won a close contest against Saint Francis with a 1-0 victory. With just 12 minutes left in the game, Amaya Zabalza scored, which marked her third matching-winning goal of the season. The victory also lifted the team to within one point of the top spot in the WCAL rankings. Amaya was honored as the AMHS Women's Soccer Player of the Game on MaxPreps for her excellent play. Congratulations Monarchs on the tremendous performances.
