Welcome to a New School Year at Archbishop Mitty!

I can't wait until our halls are once again filled with the sights and sounds of 1700 students. This place is a little too quiet for me at the beginning of August. I am also looking forward to what the seniors' first-day-of-school theme might be this year.

And, of course, I am looking forward to hearing you all sing our new theme song, "Never Gonna Let You Down." As the song proclaims, "I'm never gonna let you down; I'm always gonna build you up. And when you're feeling lost, I will always find you love. I'm never gonna walk away; I'm always gonna have your back. And if nothing else, you can always count on that. When you need me, I promise I will never let you down."

What a great message with which to begin our year together. See you soon.

Campus Ministry

Retreat Sign-up

Cornerstone: Join Today!
Cornerstone is a youth ministry program for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors that combines both youth group faith experiences and Christian Service in a supportive community. Once a week the group will meet and either go to a service location in the San Jose area to complete Christian service or they will stay on campus to participate in a youth group gathering. Youth group gatherings will be a mixture of prayer, fun community building activities, small group sharing, and discussion of important issues.

There is a program in the fall and a second program in the spring. Applications for the both semesters are now available on the Campus Ministry Database and will close on midnight Tuesday, August 30th. There is a $60 program fee. For more information, go to our Campus Ministry Page.

Athletics

Tryouts
Freshman athletes planning to run, swim, or throw a ball this fall should take some steps to make sure they're ready to play. To see the tryout schedule for each sport, go here. Before trying out, students must complete:

1)  An intent to try out registration form for each sport they plan to play.

2) A pre-participation physical evaluation form for the 2016-17 year. Parents can email this form to Ellen Shaffer at eshaffer@mitty.com. Students can also deliver it in person to the front office or the Athletics Office.

Athletic Teams Win Top Academic Awards
AMHS sports teams proved performance on the field isn't the only thing that counts when they took home top honors for extraordinary work in the classroom.

In June, the California Interscholastic Federation recognized the AMHS football team as a State Academic Team Champion for the 2015-16 school year. The award recognizes a team for earning the highest collective GPA in the state for their sport, based on an unweighted 4.0 scale. The AMHS football team shared the top honor with Polytechnic School.

In May, the CIF's Central Coast Section recognized AMHS teams with 2016 Spring Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards. The awards recognize six varsity teams in each sport for having the highest collective grade point averages of all teams for that season. The CCS recognized a total of 10 AMHS teams, including baseball; softball; men's golf; men's lacrosse; women's swimming and diving; and men's and women's track and field. Several AMHS teams earned the top spot in their section for excellent collective GPA's, including the men's volleyball; men's and women's badminton; and men's swimming and diving teams.

UPLIFT Support GroupSchool Spirit

Uplift is a Campus Ministry group dedicated to students whose parents are going through (or have previously gone through) cancer treatment or those who have lost a parent or sibling to cancer.

Our goals are to
• Give a space where students can feel safe and speak freely with peers and know they are not alone going through this stressful time.

• Provide an environment where students going through similar experiences can connect and share coping strategies.

• Have a venue where students can work through difficult emotions via art, journaling, meditation, group discussions, speakers, or walks, etc.

Uplift will be moderated by Archbishop Mitty teachers who have personal experiences dealing with cancer, as well as a school counselor. We will provide lunches on a periodic basis for the Uplift participants, followed by games, creative projects, discussions, and other activities.

If you would like more information about Uplift or your student would like to be a part of this group this year please email Rose Lopez at rlopez@mitty.com.
