Viewing Student Grades

OnCampus Grade Reporting System
Parents are reminded that student progress can be tracked using the OnCampus gradebook system. Instructions for accessing the system were sent home in late August. If you haven't created an account yet, please go to Quick Links at mitty.com and select "OnCampus" from the drop down menu. Then, click on the "Forgot Login or First time logging in?" link and follow the steps to create your login and password. Faculty are required to update grades on the 1st and 15th of each month. If you have any concerns about your student's progress in a class, please contact the teacher or your student's counselor directly.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS (SENIORS)

As deadlines approach, please note the following:
• The deadline is ONLY for the student application. Supplemental materials (test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation) are sent separately, so you do not have to wait for your teachers or counselor in order to submit your application.

• Make sure that all of your colleges are listed on Naviance and on the Common App. Your recommenders cannot send their letters if a college is missing from either list. If the college is not on the Common Application, it should still be on Naviance.

• You should send your official test scores through your College Board/ACT account. Archbishop Mitty cannot send your test scores.

• Review your application with your counselor before you submit it.

• Parents, please make sure to submit all required financial aid applications (FAFSA and/or CSS Profile).

Athletics Report

Football Advances to CCS Semifinals
In a fantastic 28-21 win, the Monarch football team toppled Oak Grove, the reigning Central Coast Section Open Division II champion from 2015. The victory earned the team a spot in the CCS semifinals.

While the teams tied in the first quarter 0-0, things took a turn in favor of the Monarchs during the second quarter. Just before halftime, sophomore Joseph Vaughn made a huge interception that buoyed the team's spirit. Vaughn made his way 50 yards into Eagle territory, before getting tackled on the five-yard line. Senior Zondre Faraj-Washington finished the job, rushing the remaining yards to complete the touchdown, and bringing the halftime score to 7-6.

It was a game of extraordinary plays. With less than a minute left in the game, senior Phillip Tran made a one yard run into the end zone, giving the Monarchs a seven-point lead with just 29 seconds remaining on the clock. Archbishop Mitty's defense also played a solid game.

Don't miss the semifinal game and cheer the Monarchs to victory as they play Los Gatos at 7:00 p.m. this Friday, November 18th, at Los Gatos High School.

Volleyball Team Wins CCS Championship
The women's varsity volleyball team continued its winning streak on Friday night with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-21 victory against Saint Ignatius High School and took the inaugural CCS Open Division Championship. The recent straight-set triumph earned the Monarchs their fifth consecutive section title. The CCS wins stretch back to the 2012 season.

During the CCS game, junior Kamrin Caoili led the way for the team with 15 kills. Her classmate, junior Julia Devine, added 11 kills of her own. Senior Makaela Tanaka ran the offense like a well-oiled machine, amassing 41 assists over the three sets. Defensively, senior Kate Formico was a stalwart player in the back row, posting 19 digs. Her teammate, junior Nicole Liddle, had 11 digs. Overall, it was a dominating performance by the entire team.

The Monarchs continue their quest for the Open Division CIF-State title this week with a Thursday, November 17th, home match for the CIF NorCal quarterfinal. The first serve will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Brother Fien Gymnasium.
School Spirit
Cross Country
The men's cross country team placed third in the CCS and will advance to the CIF State Championship. This is the first time in 16 years and the fourth time in school history that the men's cross country team has qualified for the state championship. Check the newsletter next week for a feature on the team.

Annual Course Assessments

Each year, near the end of the first semester, the school undertakes Course Assessments, a series of surveys of students about their experiences within their classes. Course Assessments will be administered this year on November 28th and 29th. At the beginning of each student's classes on those days, the student will be asked to complete a survey about that class that includes about 20 questions and invites constructive comments.

Students are surveyed anonymously and the cumulative results of the surveys are shared with teachers by the administration. We urge students to be thoughtful in their responses, as this input can be extremely valuable to the school in its ongoing efforts to make the classroom experience for students as effective as it can be.

New Financial Aid Information

Archbishop Mitty High School, under the auspices of the Diocese of San Jose, is pleased to
introduce our new financial aid management company, FACTS, which will collect and evaluate levels of financial aid need for the 2017-2018 school year. FACTS purchased PSAS earlier this year and as our returning families will see, most of the information, guidelines, and documentation will be similar to the format of the PSAS application.

All families requesting financial aid will be directed to our website to create an account with FACTS. Applications must be submitted online. Supporting documentation, including 2016 W-2s and 2015 Federal Tax returns, should be uploaded, faxed, or mailed. This is a secure online process, where you will provide a username and a password. After creating your account, you can login whenever it is convenient. Once logged in, you can fill out the application; update, change, and save information; track your progress; and communicate directly with helpful and knowledgeable FACTS staff members. The application is easy to navigate and is available in English and Spanish.

Only one application per household is required. If you are a returning family, you will be able to log in to your 2016-2017 PSAS application for reference. Financial aid applications will be available through our website, mitty.com, beginning November 20th and will be due February 6th. Families who want to be considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year are encouraged to apply. Financial aid is awarded on a need-basis only.
