Registrar's Office

Schedule of Classes
Student course schedules will be mailed in July. Parents and students should review the schedule. All students will receive an updated schedule in homeroom the
first day of classes. Students should use their course schedules for reference in ordering books from Varsitybooks.com.

Add/Drop Process
The Office of the Registrar is closed in July. Seniors seeking a schedule change may do so at no cost on August 5th. All other students seeking a schedule change may do so at no cost on August 6th and 7th. Please email all requests no earlier than August 5th to Karen Waterbury. Emails are the preferred method of communication and will receive the quickest and most complete response. If e-mail is not available, please leave a message at 408-342-4216. When leaving a message, include your full name, ID number, the change request, and your daytime telephone number. Please speak slowly and distinctly when leaving a voice message and please call only once. All emails and phone calls will be answered in the order in which they are received beginning no earlier than August 5th. After the Add/Drop dates there will be a $25.00 fee for any change to first or second semester classes.

Summer School Norms
Students seeking to advance in mathematics during summer school must receive
permission from the Mathematics Department Chair. Students enrolled in the AMHS Summer School will have their schedules automatically adjusted if their summer coursework would change their placement. No call is needed. Students enrolled in summer school at another institution must request that an official transcript be sent to AMHS. The deadline for submission of transcripts is August 3rd.

Reminders to Returning Parents
and Students

You may DOWNLOAD AND PRINT from our website the following information/documents for your convenience:

- Student Behavior Policies, including Dress Code

- Application for Student Parking Permit and Student Driver Carpooling

- First-Year Driving Restrictions, Curfew and School

- Attendance and Discretionary Absences Policies. Remember that the Attendance
Office needs a phone call the day of the absence and a note upon your student's return to school. Potential discretionary absences longer than two days, including participation in club athletic competitions, must be brought to Dean's attention one week in advance.

- College Visit Form. Seniors are allowed two days absence for college visits and must submit this form in advance of the absence(s).

- Deliveries to Students: Only academic items may be dropped off at the
Attendance Office for student pick-up.

- Consult the Parents section for updated information on student online

Advice for New Parents and Students

You may access the following information/documents from our website:

- School Policies: Parents and students should become familiar with School Policies, including Attendance, Discretionary Absences (including participation in club athletic competitions) and the Dress Code (please note the restriction on students wearing track suits as a new policy for next year) prior to the start of school.

- Traffic Directives

- Cell Phone and iPod Policy: Personal listening devices must be off and put away
while on campus from 7:50-2:35.

- Personal Laptop Policy: Personal laptops brought to school can be used only for academic work during school hours, 7:50-2:35 (in the library from 7:20-4:30). All of the Student Rules and Code of Ethical Technology Use also apply to personal laptops at school. Consult the Parents section for information and policies regarding student online communications.

- Closed Campus: Campus is closed until 2:00 p.m. each school day even when the student has the last period of the day free. Appointments should be scheduled during free periods or after 2:00 p.m., and community service should be
scheduled after 2:00 p.m.

Freshman Orientation

Freshman Orientation is designed to introduce new students to the many facets of life here at Archbishop Mitty.

Below are some important times and notes about the orientation:

Students Must be in Dress Code

Freshman Orientation is mandatory. All unexcused absences will be treated as cuts and referred to the Dean of Students. Students are required to attend the entire day's activities.

Wednesday, August 12--FRESHMAN ORIENTATION 8:45 a.m.
-Students arrive in the Fien Gym and are welcomed.

-Yearbook and student I.D. pictures will be taken. If you would like to order picture packages of your son or daughter, simply fill out the order form included and write a check made payable to Len Conrad School Photography. Have your student bring this order form and check with him or her to Orientation.

-Lunch on August 12 will be provided for students.

4:00 p.m. Students are dismissed and should be picked up.

Thursday, August 13--FRESHMAN ORIENTATION 1:00 p.m.
-Students meet in their homerooms.

-WEAR SPIRIT SHIRTS (given out the first day of orientation) and comfortable clothes in accordance with the AMHS dress code.

-On August 13, dinner for both students and parents is provided.

5:30 p.m. Parents join the Class of 2013 for the mandatory dinner and
parents' meeting.


8:00 p.m. Orientation concludes.

Thursday, August 13--TRANSFER ORIENTATION 1:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m.
Transfer students have received a separate mailing regarding
orientation.

Magazine Drive – August 19 to September 10

As the only student fundraiser of the year, the Magazine Drive supplements the costs for all student activities. Renew your subscriptions through your son or daughter, or buy new magazines, CDs, and more. Parents are needed to help process orders and prizes. Please e-mail Teresa McCabe or phone her at 408-342-4253 for more information on how to help in this effort.

Spirit Week – October 5 to October 10

Spirit Week is a full week of events, including daily dress themes, rallies, Powder Puff football, and lunch time activities. This week concludes with the Homecoming Game on Friday night and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night.

Christmas Penny Drive – October 1 to November 25

This annual competition has allowed the school to raise thousands of dollars for local charities throughout the years. Remember, bills and silver coins count as negative points for opposing classes, and pennies count as positive points for your class. Start saving your pennies now!

Monarch Madness – March 4

The best night of the year to be a Monarch always comes during the month of March. Certainly the most anticipated night, Monarch Madness has become an incredible display of school spirit and pride. The event has grown to such a large extent over the years that Student Activities Program holds this event in the Civic Auditorium in downtown San Jose. Be sure to mark this night down on your calendar.

Summer Reading 2009

The Archbishop Mitty High School Summer Reading Program is pleased to provide students with the summer reading selections for 2009. The intent of the Summer Reading Program is to provide students a pleasurable reading experience of
quality literature. It is our belief that reading skills and appreciation of literature are developed through regular reading, including summers. Summer Reading
letters and reading selections by grade level can be found by selecting Summer Reading under Quick Links on the home page of the Archbishop Mitty website.

Athletics

In order to be allowed to tryout for any AMHS team, the student-athlete must complete and turn in a completed Medical Screening Form (yearly physical) to the Department of Athletics. The student-athlete will not be allowed to participate in any tryout or contest prior to submission of this form to the Department.

- First tryout for Varsity and JV: Friday, August 14, 8:00-10:30 a.m.
- First tryout for Freshmen: Friday, August 21, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Meet on the Football Field Bleachers.Please bring cleats, athletic shorts, and a white tee shirt with their last name on the front and back. August 22nd we will have 2 practices, please bring a lunch.

Men's and Women's Cross Country — Head Coach: Mr. Mark Frise
- First formal practice for Non-Freshmen: Friday, August 14, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
- First formal practice for Freshmen: Friday, August 21, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Meet at Monarch Lion statute by football bleachers; wear running shoes and comfortable running attire. Must attend all practices/meets.

Men's Water Polo —

Meet in the bleachers on the Joanne Gallucci Softball Field; wear comfortable workout attire, shin guards, cleats, and bring running shoes, water, and mouth guard. Sticks will be provided for those who need to borrow one. All players who have made one of the teams must attend a mandatory meeting accompanied by a parent on Saturday morning, August 22nd.

Campus Ministry Highlights

Online registrations for all retreats will re-open again on August 3. Go to the Archbishop Mitty Retreat website page to register. You can sign up for only one retreat per year and the entire registration process, including payment, is done online. Please register as soon as possible as retreats fill up fast. If you are an
athlete, or anticipate being in a performing arts production, please schedule your retreat so that it does not conflict with your season or rehearsal schedule.
