To the Archbishop Mitty family,

Unfortunately, I am writing to you to pass on the sad news that we all had been hoping beyond hope would never come to pass. Our beloved Katie Reich has lost her courageous and graceful battle with cancer. I know you all share in the grief that this tragedy evokes. Katie was so loved by all her colleagues, her students, her family and friends; indeed, she was the kind of person who was loved by everyone whom she encountered. We will miss her terribly.

Because of this event and the deep impact it will have on everyone in the Archbishop Mitty community, we will alter our regular schedule this coming Monday to allow for a brief, all-school assembly for the school community to gather together in prayer and mutual support.. Please plan on going to homeroom first thing. Our Counseling Department. and our Campus Ministry Department will also be providing support for students.

As you all know, this was supposed to be our Spirit Week, but with Ms. Reich’s passing, we have decided to postpone many of our Spirit Week events until next week. Our homecoming game and dance will remain on October 10th and 11th respectively, and the daily Spirit Week activities will be moved to next week. An updated calendar of events will be given to students and posted on the website later this week.

Please keep Katie's family and all who are grieving this terrible loss in your thoughts and prayers.

In Christ’s Peace,

Tim Brosnan
Principal

raceCongratulations to Senior Hannah Stephens who was named San Jose Mercury News Athlete of the Week

“The University of Utah-bound senior was a steady presence for the Monarchs, who finished second in the Archbishop Mitty New Year's Classic. The Monarchs lost in the final 45-39 to Whitney Young-Chicago, ranked fifth in the nation by Sports Illustrated. Stephens scored 11 points in the final and 13 points in a 67-34 victory over Wilcox in the semifinals. An adept ballhandler with a good outside shot, Stephens was moved from point guard to shooting guard. ‘We needed some more offense so I thought I'd free her up from the ballhandling duties,’ Coach Sue Phillips said. ‘Hannah is solid and consistent; she can knock down the outside shot or take you off the bounce to the rim.’”

raceCongratulations to Senior Collin Chiverton who was named San Jose Mercury News Athlete of the Week

“The St. Mary's-bound senior scored a game-high 27 points Saturday as the Monarchs improved to 9-0 with an 86-65 victory over Oregon City in the Les Schwab Invitational in Hillsboro, Oregon. Chiverton averaged 19.8 points during the four-game tournament, and had 19 rebounds. Chiverton's seven three-pointers helped Mitty's attack. ‘A majority of his points were drives to the basket,’ Mitty Coach Brian Eagleson said. ‘He got going in transition and that helped open things up for the entire offense.’ An All-Mercury News selection as a junior, Chiverton was named to the all-tournament team.”
