In the multi-year program, “Stephanie will be immersed in a series of unique, hands-on learning experiences that focus on product development, project engineering, team leadership and engineering innovation,” said Program Director Dr. Edward Crawley. “The program responds to the future needs of our nation’s engineering industry by transforming a select group of highly motivated MIT undergraduate engineering students into tomorrow's engineering leaders,” added Dr. Crawley. “We’re pleased to have chosen Stephanie from a large group of highly qualified applicants.”

Congratulations to junior Ryan Rankin who was named San Jose Mercury News player of the week for his outstanding play on the Varsity Golf Team this season. According to the paper, "A week after shooting a 3-under-par 68 at Aptos Seascape Golf Course to finish second in the Aptos Invitational, Rankin fired a 2-under 70 to win the West Catholic Athletic League Tournament at The Presidio Golf Course. In 13 WCAL matches, Rankin has averaged 37 strokes per nine holes, helping Mitty (13-1) win the team regular-season title. (St. Francis won the team tournament.) Rankin sewed up the tournament on his last hole (the course's ninth) when he eagled the par-5 by hitting a 5-wood approacsh 220 yards to nine feet before making the putt. "Ryan doesn't drive the ball as far as a lot of the other players, but he has an excellent short game," Mitty Coach John Mosunic said. "And he has a great work ethic. After matches, he'll always hang around to hit another bucket of balls or put in some work on the greens."

"There is one less undefeated boys basketball team in the Metro Area. St. Francis (19-1, 9-1) had a shot at the buzzer to tie, but couldn't convert. The Lancers led 30-28 at halftime and 50-45 after three quarters, but Scott - who had four three-pointers - scored nine points in the final quarter and the Monarchs sank their free throws down the stretch. On Wednesday, February 4th, beloved Chemistry teacher, Mr. Phil Miller passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. The following is the message that Mr. Brosnan shared with the Archbishop Mitty community on the occasion of Mr. Miller’s passing:
Mr. Phil Miller, a long time and much beloved science teacher here at Archbishop Mitty, passed away yesterday. Mr. Miller had been battling cancer for quite some time; this is why he retired at the end of last year, after 28 years at Mitty. Even after his retirement, Mr. Miller continued to remain in contact with Mitty students and colleagues, collaborating often with his friends in the Science Department – passing on his wisdom, his love of science, and his belief that every students could succeed. Mr. Miller was always a student favorite – because of his, at times, irreverent humor; his tremendous intellect; and most especially, his dedication to his students, as exemplified by his countless hours working with them outside of class to insure their success. Mr. Miller will be greatly missed.
Next Wednesday, instead of the planned Faculty-Staff Meeting, we will have an All-School Assembly to gather as a community to celebrate Mr. Miller’s life. We are in the process of gathering memories and reflections from students, parents and alumni about Mr. Miller and how he positively impacted so many students over the years.
All who knew Mr. Miller are invited to share reflections in writing by dropping by Campus Ministry to write down their memories. These will be used in our ceremony next week and passed on to Mr. Miller’s family. Please keep the Miller family in your thoughts and prayers.
