Welcome to the Counseling and Guidance Department section of the AMHS website! We have provided you a wealth of information about college guidance, SAT/ACT college admissions testing, major and career search, and financial aid, as well as links to some of the most popular university websites.

Naviance is currently available for seniors, juniors, and sophomores.  Freshman will be enabled in Spring 2008.

Performing and Visual Arts  (PVA) College Fair in San Francisco

You are invited to attend the Performing and Visual Arts  (PVA) College Fair in San Francisco.  PVA College Fairs are hosted by the National Association for College Admission Counseling and are designed for students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in the areas of music, dance, theater, visual arts, graphic design, and other related disciplines.  Attend and meet with representatives from colleges, universities, conservatories, festivals and other educational institutions with specialized programs in the visual and performing arts.  The PVA will be held at  Nob Hill Masonic Center from 4:00pm -6:00pm on October 27th.

Seniors, Class of 2008

The Counseling and College Guidance Department will continue the college application process that began in the spring.   Five lessons were conducted in the religion classrooms that utilized the College Match book and required juniors to sign up to Family Connection -Naviance. 

Seniors are required to purchase Introduction to Type in College, a helpful guide to help understand the Meyers Brigg Personality Test that is a component of Family Connection.  The seniors have five lessons that will be conducted in their religion class beginning September 10th.  Below are the senior lesson calendar dates:

The Common Application for 2007-08 is already linked to Family Connection.  However, requests for teacher recommendations should not be completed prior to the first week of school.  College applications for the University of California and California State University will be available October 1st.

The California State University system will begin accepting applications after October 1st.
The University of California application is due no later than November 30th. 
Private and out of state schools have different deadlines and should be checked individually by visiting the Common Application Form and the individual school web site.

Juniors, Class of 2009

Juniors have been assigned a College and Guidance Counselor for junior/senior year.  The Counseling and Guidance Department requires that all juniors purchase the College Match book in the fall to prepare for spring classes with their counselors beginning January 3rd.  Some juniors may have registered on Family Connection in the spring.  All juniors will be registered during the first lesson. Below are the junior calendar dates:

January 3-4
February 4-5
February 11-12
February 19-20
March 31- April 1

Juniors are encouraged to visit colleges during all vacation breaks if possible.  Juniors and their parents will be invited to attend the College Case Studies Program in April and the Santa Clara County College Fair in May, more information will be provided at a later date. 

The PSAT will be administered to all sophomores and juniors October 17, 2007

The College Board and ACT are both links on Family Connection.

Students can register online by visiting the College Board . Online registration is quick and easy and allows students to select their test center and print their admission ticket for test day. In addition to allowing students to register for the test online, the College Board's website also includes many resources for students preparing for the SAT. Helpful test-taking tips, information about what to expect on test day, and SAT-readiness materials, including The Official SAT Question of the Day.
