Other Campus Ministry Programs

Charity Drives

Each year Campus Ministry spearheads several drives to help people in need. Annual drives include the Fall Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and the Lenten Operation Rice Bowl to benefit Catholic Relief Services. In recent years Campus Ministry has also coordinated Teens for Teens Drive during the Advent season, and the Blood Drive during Holy Week. Students who want to respond to needs in the community by creating a drive should communicate with the Director of Campus Ministry and the Christian Service Coordinator.

Confirmation

The Campus Ministry  Department offers students the opportunity to be confirmed each year. Students who wish to participate in the AMHS Confirmation process must make an appointment with their pastor and then need to secure written permission to participate in the AMHS Confirmation program. There will be a series of evening meetings that will help the students prepare for the Sacrament. The program will focus on 1) building community; 2) the role and responsibility of confirmed members of the Catholic community; and 3) the student’s own faith journey. For more information, contact Ms. Sigrid Jacobsen or click here.

Mitty's Advocacy Project

The Mitty Advocacy Project is a team of students who work as advocates to gather information and assist with legislative measures to help provide support for marginalized people throughout California and the U.S. In keeping with the core values of Catholic Social Teaching, The Mitty Advocacy Project lobbies legislators for the poor, elderly and those who are suffering from social injustices. Students receive training with legislative sessions, developing public awareness, and organizing public events. Interested students, please come and see Mr. Michael Accorsi for more information.

Retreat Leadership

Leaders for Campus Ministry retreats are typically drawn from the LIFE-Emmaus Team. In order to lead a Kairos retreat, you need to have gone on one during your senior year. If you would like to apply to lead a Kairos as an alumnus, click here for the Kairos Alumni Application

If you would like to nominate someone to lead Kairos, please click here for the Kairos Nomination Form.

Shepherd

Shepherd is an organization within Archbishop Mitty High School’s Campus Ministry Department whose purpose is to provide a safe environment where students can explore dynamics that socially marginalize people within and outside the AMHS community. The group provides a forum and community to those concerned with difficult issues related to social inclusion. Shepherd recognizes that many students cope with stress, fear, harassment and discrimination due to stereotypes that depersonalize the individual. Shepherd hopes to rid our community of prejudice, not through condemnation, but through education. Shepherd meets every Wednesday afterschool, providing a space where students can relax, discuss, and share. For more information, contact Ms. Jennifer Salmon.

Spiritual Direction

One of the vital functions of Campus Ministry is to accompany students as they develop their relationships with God, themselves, and other people. Spiritual direction is a process which can facilitate this growth. Often a spiritual director can be helpful in offering support, advice, and encouragement. Students who wish to talk about their faith or who are interested in on-going spiritual direction should contact any member of the Campus Ministry Team or Steve Scott.

Student Leadership: The LIFE-Emmaus Team

Student leadership is the hallmark of our Campus Ministry program and distinguishes it from other programs. Students are central to all facets of Campus Ministry. They help plan, organize, and staff all school retreats, liturgies, and a variety of other programs. The heart of the Campus Ministry Program at Archbishop Mitty is the LIFE-Emmaus Team. Members of the LIFE-Emmaus Team seek to bridge a life of faith with a life of service. “LIFE” is an acronym for Living In Faith Experience. A critical component of this experience is service to those who are in need. “Emmaus” refers to the Gospel story in which two disciples encounter Jesus and return to share this encounter with their community.

The LIFE-Emmaus Team is Christocentric, meaning that it is rooted and grounded in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During the LIFE-Emmaus Summer Formation Experiences, and throughout the year, we look to Jesus as a model of discipleship and a source of inspiration. As a Catholic school, we also seek to encounter God through the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Although the majority of the LIFE-Emmaus Team comes from the Christian tradition, past members have come from diverse faith traditions. These LIFE-Emmaus members have contributed to our understanding and appreciation of other religions. The most important quality of a LIFE-Emmaus member is a desire to grow closer to God.  For more information contact Mr. Steve Scott.
