Liturgy
Archbishop Mitty High School offers a wide array of liturgical opportunities. Both Eucharistic and non-Eucharistic liturgies assist us as a community in celebrating and recognizing God's presence in our lives through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the Eucharist we are nourished by God's infinite mercy and compassion, as it is “the source and summit of the Christian life" (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 10). We are therefore invited to become more loving and just in our daily life; to model our lives after Christ.
This year mass is offered on Friday mornings at 7:15 am in our community chapel and all students, faculty, staff, and parents are warmly invited. A schedule can be found on our Campus Ministry calendar of events. Also, each month members of the AMHS community gather for the AMHS monthly liturgy. Each class will attend liturgy together once during the school year. Every time we come together in prayer people of all faith backgrounds are encouraged to attend and participate fully and actively. There are many ways to assist with liturgies. We are always in need of lectors, Eucharistic ministers, actors, and artists. For more information, please contact Ms. Kristin Byrnes.
Each year, the Campus Ministry department chooses a liturgical theme that is interwoven into all assemblies and liturgies. The theme is introduced at the start of the school year, on the first day of classes, during the All School Assembly. All subsequent monthly assemblies focus on one aspect of the theme. A particular gospel passage is read that relates to the theme and a member of the administration, faculty, or staff offers their reflection on the scripture. The liturgical theme for the 2010-2011 school year is based on the song, “One Day” by Matisyaho. Together, we will look at how we are building the Kingdom of God, one day at a time. The focus will change monthly, as follows:
September – We Build the Kingdom of God…One Day
October – We Heal Brokenness…One Day
November – We End Hunger…One Day
December – We Welcome Jesus…One Day
January – We Respect our Differences…One Day
February – We Take Time for Prayer…One Day
March – We Build Community…One Day
April – We End Violence…One Day
May – We Lead Others…One Day
