Freshmen Baseball Team 2008-2009 (pdf)

The Archbishop Mitty baseball program finished 2008 with one of the best overall seasons in school history.  The freshmen team finished the year as WCAL champions with a record of 21-0.  The junior varsity team finished a strong third place in the WCAL with a record of 16-6.  The varsity finished in third place in the WCAL with a record of 24-11 and advanced to the CCS Division 1 final, losing 1-0 heart breaker to WCAL rival Valley Christian.  The Varsity team won two tournaments during the course of the year.  First, The Mike Hazlett Tournament hosted by Wilcox High School.  Victories in the tournament were over Harbor, San Benito, and Valley Christian in the Championship game.  Second, the Monarchs won the Cupertino Host, Lions Tournament with victories over Saratoga, Homestead, Monta Vista, and Gilroy. The Monarchs finished the year as the fourth ranked team in the San Jose Mercury News and as the 11th team in Northern California according to Cal Hi Sports.

Archbishop Mitty will head into the 2009 season attempting to continue the most successful period in the school’s baseball history; a period that began with an appearance in the CCS Division I semi-finals in 1996 and has included in the subsequent years 3 CCS Division I titles, 2 WCAL titles, two CCS Division I finals appearance, one additional CCS Division I semi-finals appearance, a string of 14 straight years with a berth in the CCS division 1 playoffs, 4 different years finishing among the top 50 schools in the country according to Baseball America, and numerous other individual and team accolades.  The Monarchs have been 191-77 since 2000 with a record of 18-6 in the CCS Division I playoffs. The program has placed 47 players in 4-year college programs since 1996.
