FAQ
When are tryouts?
Tryouts typically begin October 20th for the Varsity team and last for 3 days. Please consult your summer mailing from the school for date specifics.
What kind of equipment do I need for tryouts?
Please wear comfortable workout clothes, running shoes, and basketball shoes.
How many players are usually kept on the team and are their “cuts”?
Archbishop Mitty fields 3 women’s basketball teams; a freshmen, junior varsity, and a varsity team. Since the number of coaches available to the program is determined by league rules, the Frosh, JV, and Varsity rosters are limited to ensure a good player-to-coach ratio suitable for teaching and learning as defined by the varsity head coach. This number typically varies between 12-14 players per team.
Is there a chance I could make one of the teams even though I have never played “club” or “AAU” basketball before?
Of course! It is not a pre-requisite to play “club” in order to make the roster.
Can a freshman make the varsity team?
Freshman are eligible for making the freshmen, junior varsity, or varsity team.
How long is the season and what is the time commitment?
The women’s basketball season typically runs from the 3rd week in October through the middle of February. The Varsity high school season concludes with the State Championship, which usually falls on the third weekend in March. The Freshmen practice 1.5 hours Monday through Saturday; the Junior Varsity practice 2 hours Monday-Saturday; the Varsity will practice for 2.5 hours Monday-Saturday.
Where are Mitty home games played?
Home games are played in Mitty’s Fien Gymnasium. Parking is available in the west lot near Lawrence Expressway
