FAQ
When are tryouts?
Tryouts typically begin the second Monday in August and last for three days. Please consult your summer mailing from the school for date specifics.
What do I need for the tryouts?
A completed physical and participation form on file with the athletic department, and a swimsuit. Goggles and sunscreen are recommended. Running attire is required on certain days. A towel would be a good idea.
How many players are kept on the team and are there “cuts”?
There are two teams: a junior varsity (composed of freshmen and sophomores), and a varsity. The size of the rosters is limited to ensure a good player/ coach ratio as defined by the head coach. The number is typically 18-25 per team.
There have not been cuts in the past for the JV team, but the varsity team is limited to 18-25 players.
Can I make the team? I never played before…
Most (90%) of our players never played before.
Can a freshman/ sophomore make the varsity team?
Yes, however a junior or senior may not try out for the junior varsity team.
How is the game played? What are the rules?
( “water polo 101”: rules of the game) to be included soon
What if I don’t like swimming?
You don’t have to like swimming to like water polo, but it helps.
How long is the season? How long are practices?
The season runs from the second Monday in August through CCS finals, typically in mid- November. Practices are 2.5 hours per day Monday- Friday, and many tournaments take place on Friday- Saturday.
