FAQ
How many openings will there be for ninth grade and how many applications do you receive?
We enroll 425 students at the freshman level. We expect to receive close to 1200 applications for these spaces.
What are the acceptance criteria?
Admission to Archbishop Mitty High School is comprehensive; however, the Archbishop Mitty Admissions Committee primarily considers the following criteria when making admissions decisions:
- 7th and 8th grade grades (including conduct)
- Standardized testing scores from junior high and the High School Placement Test
- Teacher recommendations
- Student-reported activities and special talents
In addition, the Admissions Committee gives priority to Catholic Applicants. Priority is also given to applicants who take their placement test at Mitty and indicate Mitty as their first choice.
If Archbishop Mitty is my student’s second choice, what is her/his chance of being accepted to Mitty?
In the past, we have accepted students who have listed Mitty as their second choice; however, priority is given to students who list Mitty as their first choice and take the High School Placement Test at Mitty.
What are my student’s chances of being accepted to Archbishop Mitty if my student is not Catholic?
Archbishop Mitty considers applications from all students. Priority is given to Catholic applicants; however, 25% of our student population is non-Catholic.
How many letters of recommendation are needed?
We require a School Report form completed by your principal, 8th grade teacher or counselor. As an option, to give us more information, we ask for an additional recommendation from your English, math, science or social studies teacher.
If I apply for financial aid, will that affect my student’s application?
No. Archbishop Mitty’s admission process is need blind, meaning we do not take financial need into consideration when making admissions decisions.
Do you accept transfer students?
A very small number of students are accepted for grades 10 and 11 if space becomes available. We do not consider transfer students for mid-year enrollment.
Where do Archbishop Mitty graduates attend college?
99.5% of Archbishop Mitty students go on to college, a percentage far in excess of the national average. Members of the Class of 2006 were accepted at more than 180 four-year institutions, including all of the UC and Cal State campuses, Stanford University, Santa Clara University, Ivy League schools, and a wide variety of other public and private universities throughout the United States.
