Academic Requirements
Archbishop Mitty requires that students achieve particular goals in regards to minimum number, six (6), and nature of courses taken each year, the course of study in each department each year, and the total number of units required for graduation. A student who fulfills these three criteria is in good standing academically while at Archbishop Mitty and earns an Archbishop Mitty diploma.
Academic Requirements by Year
Freshman Year
6 courses each semester required
- 1 semester of freshman Physical Development
- 1 semester of American Government and Civics
- 2 semesters of English 1
- 2 semesters of Modern Language
- 2 semesters of Mathematics
- 2 semesters of Religious Studies
- 1 semester of General Science
- 1 semester of an Arts elective
- Students must complete 25 verified hours of Christian Service to enroll for sophomore year.
Sophomore Year
6 courses each semester required
- 2 semesters of Science
- 2 semesters of English
- 2 semesters of Modern Language
- 2 semesters of Mathematics
- 2 semesters of Religious Studies
- 2 semesters of World History
- Students must complete 25 verified hours of Christian Service to enroll for junior year.
Junior Year
6 courses each semester required
- 2 semesters of Science
- 2 semesters of English
- 2 semesters of Mathematics
- 2 semesters of Religious Studies
- 2 semesters of U.S. History
- 2 semesters of Modern Language or 2 semesters of elective courses
- Students must complete 25 verified hours of Christian Service to enroll for senior year
Senior Year
6 courses each semester required. 5 courses each semester must be academic.
- 2 semesters of English
- 1 semester of Religious Studies
- 1 semester of Introduction to Philosophy
- 1 semester of American Government and 1 semester of a Social Studies elective
- 2 semesters of elective courses
- 2 semesters of elective courses
- 2 semesters of elective courses
- Students must complete 25 verified hours of Christian Service to qualify for graduation and receive a diploma.
Elective courses are chosen from the English, Mathematics, Modern Language, Performing Arts, Physical Development, Religious Studies, Social Studies, Science, and Visual Arts departments.
Graduation Requirements by Department
- English: 8 semesters with a minimum of one every semester
- Mathematics: 6 semesters in freshman, sophomore, and junior year
- Modern Language: 4 semesters in the same language
- Physical Development: 2 semesters (1 required in freshman year)
- Religious Studies: 7 semesters
- Science: 5 semesters
General Science (1 semester in freshman year)
Biology in sophomore year
Chemistry in junior year - Introduction to Philosophy: 1 semester
- Social Studies: 7 semesters
American Government and Civics (1 semester) in freshman year
World History in the sophomore year
U.S. History in the junior year
American Government (1 semester) in the senior year along
Senior Social Studies Elective (1 Semester) - Visual Arts or Performing Arts: 2 semesters in one course, e.g. Visual Art 1 and Visual Art 2/Painting (1 semester required in freshman year)
- Completion of 100 hours of verified Christian Service.
Required Units for Graduation
Minimum Units Required: 240
A senior who does not pass the required 30 units each semester of senior year, fails a course in senior year (and does not make up the units during senior year), or does not meet the graduation requirements in any provision (including all financial obligations to the school and the Christian Service requirement), does not receive a diploma or a transcript with date of graduation; nor is the individual included in the alumni until such time as the deficiency is rectified.
